Follow: @Linguamatics https://twitter.com/Linguamatics https://www.linkedin.com/company/linguamatics https://www.facebook.com/Linguamatics https://plus.google.com/+Linguamatics https://www.youtube.com/user/Linguamatics/videos In knowledge driven industries such as the life sciences and healthcare, finding the right information quickly from huge volumes of text is crucial in supporting the best business decisions. However, around 80% of available information exists as unstructured text, and conventional keyword searches only retrieve documents, which still have to be read. This is very time consuming, unreliable, and, when important decisions rest on it, costly. Linguamatics’ text mining solution, I2E, uses Natural Language Processing to identify and extract relevant knowledge at least 10 times faster than conventional search, often uncovering insights that would otherwise remain unknown. I2E analyses the meaning of the text using powerful linguistic algorithms, enabling you to ask open questions, find the relevant facts and identify valuable connections. Going beyond simple keywords, I2E can recognise concepts and the different ways the same thing can be expressed, increasing the recall of relevant information. I2E then presents high quality results as structured, actionable knowledge, enabling fast review and analysis, and providing dramatically improved speed to insight. Our market leading software is supported by highly qualified domain experts who work with our customers to ensure successful project outcomes. My experience of Linguamatics: Samir Courdy, Huntsman Cancer Institute

02:48
Chief Research Information Officer Samir, explains how his organization has used Linguamatics NLP platform to automatically abstract data for cancer research. To learn more about Linguamatics visit www.linguamatics.com “Cancer research is very data driven and we’ve been trying to drive that point home for a very long time, being in informatics we knew it was all about the data but now it’s come to a level of understanding and depth that we cannot solve this problem alone. Let’s say you know exactly what you’re looking for, we can do Google-like searches on our data sets, but with Google you’re going to get everything under the sun that might fit the criteria whether it’s relevant to your patient or anything PSA. I encountered Linguamatics I2E about 7 years ago I want to say now, and we’ve been using them, we’ve been very happy, we are able to abstract data in an automated sense where we can identify the data elements that are important to our researchers. We went through a really great exercise where we identified some holes in the data that we were capturing through NLP, so now we’ve refined it to such a degree that the process is moving very well and in many cases we’re getting above 100% accuracy on our precision and recall for a lot of data points that we’re collecting through NLP, and you might ask how can you get above 100%, well it turns out that what we’ve found out through this exercise is that sometimes many of the documents that we can gain access to from the electronic data warehouse which is where the EMR data goes into, is wider than what the original data abstracter can get to manually, so we compared that manually one to one correlation if that person was able to get to that document and our software was able to get to that document, and we got it right every time that’s 100%, but then if we can get other documents that this manual abstracter cannot get to then now we’re above 100%, based on the number of documents we can access that are not accessible to the manual abstractor. We’ve been very successful in developing queries and tools and achieving results much faster, and having a company behind a software that a company and folks that back it up and develop it and continue to evolve it makes a big difference.” “Cancer research is very data driven and we’ve been trying to drive that point home for a very long time, being in informatics we knew it was all about the data but now it’s come to a level of understanding and depth that we cannot solve this problem alone. My experience of Linguamatics: Baerbel LoSacco, Boehringer Ingelheim

01:49
Baerbel LoSacco explains how the Computational Biology Group at Boehringer Ingelheim uses Linguamatics text mining platform, I2E. To learn more about Linguamatics visit www.linguamatics.com "I work mostly in early discovery, the very front end of new targets being developed, scientists come to me with very initial questions, can you tell me something about this gene, I am wondering if it is implicated in this disease area we are working on” Having that information [] available might be the difference between a go no-go situation – if we don’t find accurate information people might ditch the project. Finding accurate information is very important. I use I2E to get scientific and biological information, who is working in this space already, are there trials, applications out there. I2E lets you put different pieces together to get the whole picture, you have to have a tool that really lets you dig into the information and Linguamatics has really helped us tackle big data"

My experience of Linguamatics: Stuart Murray, Agios Pharmaceuticals

02:04
Stuart talks about his experience of using Linguamatics text mining platform, I2E, to get decision support and build their pipeline at Agios. To learn more about Linguamatics visit www.linguamatics.com “We’ve used Linguamatics for about 9-10 years. We’ve used it at Wyeth, and Pfizer and we brought it into Agios. The reason we use Linguamatics I2E is speed. It is simply to get decision support as fast as possible and as comprehensively as we can. We’ve used it from very early exploratory to discover targets for our pipeline through pre-clinical development looking for safety signals, preclinical safety signals and now most recently for pharmacovigilance to try to understand what is going on in our clinical trials. We don’t just use it to find an answer so we use I2e to actually build a pipeline. Our rare genetic program was founded on an understanding of the global space of rare genetic diseases so we mined that extensively with I2E to identify candidate diseases and candidate target genes, so we actually developed a whole therapeutic area using text mining technologies. As an example, an investigator in a university had developed a small molecule and they had a collaboration with the NIH to develop the compound we, found a PubMed chemical report, and we phoned them up and the NIH said never been contacted as fast before, and that’s we can find information faster that’s just one example. In our company not difficult or unusual to use text mining, we are not a siloed organization we are actually embedded in our project teams, so it is expected we can find an answer, it is expected we are reliable, it is expected it will be effective, we have tried competitors, for more sophisticated text mining semantic search we think Linguamatics is the best.”

Maximize the value of your information assets with advanced NLP-based text mining

01:03:22
How are you capturing knowledge from your text based information assets? Turning text into actionable insights is key for any business, especially in knowledge-driven industries such as life sciences and healthcare. Although huge amounts of information exist in the form of unstructured text, such as scientific articles, patents, electronic health records, news feeds or social media, this is often poorly exploited. This webcast demonstrates the state of the art in extracting information from unstructured text using Natural Language Processing (NLP).

My experience of Linguamatics: Jonathan Hartmann, Georgetown University Medical Center

01:51
Jonathan explains how he uses Linguamatics text mining platform, I2E, in his daily work as an informationist at Georgetown University Medical Center. To learn more about Linguamatics visit www.linguamatics.com “I work with the doctors in our hospital to find information for them, and I use Linguamatics I2E to help me do that more efficiently. I accompany the physicians on round so when they have a question and they need some research to make a clinical decision, I use Medline or other databases to pull up the information right on the stop so they can make the decision immediately based on that information, so Linguamatics I2E allows me to get through huge amounts of text quickly to find the information that I need or the doctors need. Once when I was helping a physician in our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), the doctor needed information about a child who had three different conditions co-occurring, and he wanted to know about the relationship between those diseases in a child as far as it would impact the treatments, so I was able to use Linguamatics and I found there were only two journal articles published on the topic, and I was able to find those very quickly and give them to him so that he could make a decision on the treatment immediately. There’s so much medical information available, that doctors really don’t have the time to study all the research that’s out there, so having Linguamatics allows us to get to that information, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to get it at all or in a timely manner that really would impact the care positively.”
