How to make turmeric supplement capsules at home.

04:00
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com Patrick Schwerdtfeger demonstrates how to make turmeric supplement capsules or pills in your own home. The device being used was purchased at Whole Foods in Walnut Creek, California. The turmeric was purchased at the same place and the empty capsules were purchased at a health food store on Monument in Concord. Although it takes time, it's actually quite easy to make your own supplement capsules or pills in your own home. Give it a try. Sales Training and the "Law of State Transfer"

08:02
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ What is "the Law of State Transfer?" It's the tendency for your emotional "state" to transfer to the other people you're interacting with, especially if you're the "alpha" in the conversation. If you're in a GOOD mood, it will tend to transfer to the other person. If you're in a BAD mood, it will transfer as well. This is particularly important for sales training. Salespeople need to be the alpha in their prospect interactions and they also need to LOVE and BELIEVE in their product (or service). If they do, the prospect will tend to believe in it as well. If they do not, the prospect will generally sense that you don't and be less likely to buy as a result. The Law of State Transfer is also important in your person interactions with your spouse and/or your kids, and it's also important in my own role as a professional speaker. If you want the other person to experience a particular emotion, you have to find it within yourself first.

Rapid Skill Acquisition: How to Learn New Skills Quickly

08:25
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ Want to learn a new skill quickly? Watch this video for tips on rapid skill acquisition and how to learn FAST. It boils down (1) deconstructing the task, (2) practicing each increment in isolation and (3) always pushing to failure. It's at the barrier between ability and failure that your brain will learn the quickest. And how much time does it take to learn a new task? Many researchers believe it takes as little as 20 hours of effective practice to become proficient. This video references Malcolm Gladwell's "Outliers" book and Tim Ferriss's "Four Hour Work Week" book. Malcolm Glad well discusses the 10,000 hour rule to become 'world class' in a given field and Tim Ferriss is well known for reverse-engineering skills and learning them in record time.

Anger and Revenge are More Powerful Motivators than Happiness and Love

06:34
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ Are you angry inside? That's super powerful motivation; much more powerful than happiness and love. Many successful people started their journeys in anger, jealousy and revenge, and it's powerful stuff. So if you're angry, you need to embrace it and channel it towards your own future success. And then, when you finally get there, your negativity will start to dissipate for the right reasons. You're not "convincing" yourself to be happy. You're working through your anger and achieving a new reality where anger can no longer survive. Your doubts have been vindicated. You no longer have any reason to be angry. So embrace your anger and use it as motivation to become successful in life. Achieve the things you desire and then bask in the glory of achievement and success.

My Inguinal Hernia Repair Surgery and Recovery

06:11
I had an inguinal hernia repair surgery on December 13th, 2012, and recorded this video throughout the procedure and during my recovery period. The hernia was in my groin area on the right side and was causing discomfort, especially when I was standing still for extended periods. The problem was that you aren't supposed to lift more than 10 pounds for 4 weeks after the surgery, and I travel regularly as part of my career. I first noticed the hernia in August but had to wait until December because I had a busy travel schedule during the fall season. If I didn't do the operation during this window, I would have to wait until a year later in December 2013. So I decided to get it done. The doctor described a number of risk factors associated with hernia surgery, including extensive bruising and possible chronic pain. They insert a mesh screen where the hernia is located and the chronic pain can sometimes result from the body not accepting that mesh. In those cases, although rare, the only final solution is to remove the mesh screen, which of course results in the same hernia you started with. Anyway, I know a lot of people who have had hernia repair surgeries and none of them have experienced any problems as a result. This video has clips from before the surgery, immediately following the surgery and during the three days following the surgery. I hope it provides some guidance for others who might be preparing for similar procedures themselves. I also hope those who watch this video will share their own thoughts and experiences in the comment section below. Thank you for watching and for reading this extended description as well!

Positive Mindset: We Radiate Our Emotions

08:30
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger/sbi/ This video talks about emotions (both positive and negative) and the impact they have on our lives and the people around us. Patrick talks about how to change your mindset and be positive. The Secret discussed similar topics and spirit science has been exploding in recent years. The resulting emotional understanding can lead to truly inspirational changes for people living with problems including anorexia, depression and thoughts of suicide. The bottom line is that we can influence and affect what we think about. It's not easy and Patrick admits that a strictly psychological approach is difficult for many. But by building your life around activities you're good at and that you enjoy, happiness will inevitably filter through your psychology and start affecting those around you, drawing more positive energy to you. TEDx speaker Patrick Schwerdtfeger is the author of the award-winning book "Marketing Shortcuts for the Self-Employe" (2011, Wiley) and a regular speaker for Bloomberg TV. Success leads to Complacency, Complacency leads to Failure

08:08
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ People who become successful often become complacent in their success, and that leads right back to failure. You see this with rich kids. They don't value the money. They don't value the hard work that led to the wealth in the first place, so they get lazy and entitled, and then they fail to perpetuate the success. So how can you break the cycle? By making your success about others. Attaining "purpose" or self-actualization is all about sharing your expertise and your mastery with others. Find a way to benefit the greater good and you'll stay motivated, and that will allow you to maintain your success over time.

Perfectionism, Paralysis of Analysis and Taking Action

07:47
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ Are you a perfectionist? If so, you probably hold back instead of taking action. Some refer to this as "paralysis of analysis" and it destroys progress. Getting something started is harder than changing direction later, so focus on taking that initial action. Focus on getting the process started. You can always make adjustments later on. Don't worry about being perfect all the time. Few people remember those early attempts anyway. Just get something out there and worry about making improvements later.

Chances are that your favorite quality and least favorite quality are bi-products of the same dominant trait. If you were lucky enough to get rid of what you hate, you would probably lose what you love most at the same time. This video attempts to explain the psychology to help relationships succeed.

Bad communication skills is at the heart of most man-woman relationship problems.

03:24
This video is about poor communication skills and how they influence most heterosexual relationships. Most people are bad communicators, especially when it comes to the uncomfortable topics like sex or anxiety issues. If those issues aren't discussed, they fester in your mind and escalate into much larger concerns. I believe relationships have a much better shot at success if the participants find ways of discussing the difficult issues and understanding each others' opinions. Big Data Opportunity: Structured vs. Unstructured Data

12:33
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ Where's the opportunity in Big Data? Is it with structured data or unstructured data? Experts estimate that over 95% of the data in the world today is unstructured and only 5% is structured, so there's definitely a lot MORE unstructured data to be mined. The case histories so far suggest that the biggest opportunities lie in the messy unstructured data; the data the INCLUDES the outliers rather than marginalize them. The outliers add the most interesting insights to the process and allow the algorithms to calculate probabilities using the entire sample size, rather than relying on sampling inferences based on a small subset of the population. So research your unstructured data. Look at all those machine logs and metadata and see what insights you might be able to glean. Those are the building blocks for predictive analytics and algorithms that value.

Anger Management, Jealousy and Other Negative Emotions

05:43
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ This video discusses negative emotions like anger, jealousy and hatred, and how they are almost always secretly directed at yourself. When you THINK you're angry at someone else, you're probably subconsciously angry at yourself for being in the situation where the other person's actions affected you so much. The same is true for jealousy and hatred. Look at YOURSELF first and see if the negative emotion is more accurately directed at yourself. And once you identify the TRUE source of the negative emotion, you can finally come to terms with the reality and start fixing the problem. Confront the "cold hard truth" and be honest with yourself. If you don't, you will never address the core problem. The problem is almost ALWAYS with yourself. And thankfully, that's the one thing you have control over: yourself. So dig into your anger and see where it's actually coming from and then take action to eliminate that situation from your future. Life is a journey of constant improvement but it only works when you take ownership of your own problems and frustrations.

05:18
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ If you wish to achieve success, you need to be willing to do what others are NOT willing to do. You need to do what's necessary to become successful, not once or twice, but hundreds of times as your career progresses and evolves. This video discusses this fact and offers some examples from my own life; times when I needed to do things that scared me to death. Taking risks is difficult but it is essential to achieve greatness.

Public Speaking Tips: How to Write a Great Speech

19:08
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ Patrick Schwerdtfeger discusses speech structure and how to write a good speech and guarantee a powerful close. Use it if you're a motivational speaker, an executive preparing for a board meeting, a manager needing to motivate his/her staff or a salesperson wanting to make an impact with prospective customers. This approach to speech writing will dramatically and immediately improve your presentations and leave attendees inspired to take action. Patrick's approach is to write his speeches like a song with verses, a chorus and a "bridge" near the end. And what's the bridge? Back in the 1980s, it was the guitar solo! In a speech, it's designed to break attendees out of their rhythm and seal in the "surprising truth" of your speech. This speech structure virtually guarantees a powerful close. Patrick also incorporates neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) to seed ideas during the speech and tee up the surprising truth before you even introduce it. He uses "The Office" as an example of topic "out-takes" and describes how you can use questions to make your speech insightful and powerful for the audience. Patrick is a leading authority on global business trends and small business marketing. He's the author of the award-winning book "Marketing Shortcuts for the Self-Employed" (2011, Wiley) and a regular speaker for Bloomberg TV. How to Communicate with Empathy and Compassion

06:59
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ How can you communicate with empathy and compassion? It all boils down to validating the person's initial frustration BEFORE trying to solve the problem. "Yes, I understand." "Me too." "I would feel the same way in that situation." These are the messages the person wants to hear, validating his/her right to be frustrated in the first place. If you just try to solve the problem right away, you dismiss their right to be frustrated. In effect, you marginalize their frustration and make them feel stupid for being upset. That's the opposite of what they want. So if someone is frustrated, try to understand their frustration FIRST and only then try to solve the problem.

10x Your Goals: Think Bigger About Your Business

15:07
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi Think bigger about your business because most people have "realistic" goals and that means the realistic goals have much more competition. If you think bigger and set your goals way higher than everybody else, you end up having very little competition. Very few people are willing to go out and shoot for those huge audacious goals (like becoming a billionaire) so your efforts often go unchallenged and even encouraged by the people in your life. People are drawn to excited ambitious people so your efforts to shoot BIG will attract other people towards you. Patrick Schwerdtfeger is a TEDx speaker and the author of the award-winning book "Marketing Shortcuts for the Self-Employed" (2011, Wiley) as well as a number of other books. Is HUMILITY a sign of Weakness or Courage?

06:31
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ Some people see humility or vulnerability as a sign of weakness while others see it as a sign of immense courage. How are these people different from each other? Inevitably, it boils down to empathy and compassion. Human beings connect with each other more through struggle than through victory. When we share our struggles with each other, it creates an opportunity for empathy and compassion, allowing us to connect with each other in a whole-hearted way. In my opinion, humility is a sign of courage and I only wish to spend time with other people who feel the same way.

How to be More Confident: Conquer Fear and Anxiety

08:31
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ Build confidence! It will affect every area of your life. Do you fear a particular activity? Do you get anxiety in certain situations? The only way to conquer that fear is to do that activity more often. And ideally, do it repeatedly in quick succession. Your comfort zone will expand very quickly; more quickly than most people expect. If you did an activity 10 times in a row, perhaps all in a single day, you would already feel very differently by the 10th attempt than you did at the 1st attempt. Doing an activity repeatedly in a short period of time is like subjecting yourself to a mini immersion program, and the research is clear. Immersion dramatically accelerates the learning curve. As people, we learn much quicker if we do something repeatedly. So build confidence by intentionally subjecting yourself to immersion in the areas that scare you the most.

Business 101: Value more than Price = Profit

04:18
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ You have a PROFIT opportunity when the VALUE you deliver is higher than the PRICE you charge for it. If you provide more value than you're charging, nobody will ever question your price. And if people are questioning your price, you either need to deliver more value or charge a lower price. One way or another, the customer has to feel like he/she is better off after the purchase. SALES is when you attempt to convince someone that the value being delivered is actually higher than originally expected. Sales is the process of boosting the value by clarifying the problem being solved or the implications of the unsolved problem in the future. In either case, the perception of value will increase, justifying a higher price. Patrick Schwerdtfeger is a keynote speaker who can cover pricing structure and unique value propositions at your upcoming event. Please contact us to check availability.

Immigration Follows Jobs (USA, Europe and Dubai)

03:36
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ When an economy starts booming, immigration is soon to follow. They're looking for work. They're looking for opportunity. So when the USA and Europe had booming economies between 1982 and 2003, they had lots of immigration at the same time. Actually, immigration is a "lagging indicator" because it takes a few years for people to realize that more jobs exist elsewhere, so the immigration came from approximately 1985 or 1986 up to 2008 or 2009. After that, since the US economy is still growing, it still has immigration although it has already slowed. And in Europe where their economy is really struggling, immigration has dropped off significantly, especially in the southern Mediterranean countries like Greece, Italy and Spain. And today with Dubai and Abu Dhabi booming, we see huge immigration to those areas, coming mostly from India, Pakistan and North Africa. Immigration follows jobs. So if you see a country with a growing healthy economy, you can expect immigration to be rising at the same time.

The Amazing Story of the Chinese Bamboo Tree

07:37
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ Have you heard about the Chinese bamboo tree? It has an amazing story that we can all learn from. You plant the seed and need to water it and tend to it for five years before it breaks the surface. But once it breaks through, it can grow as much as four feet each day, reaching heights as high as 90 feet, all within six weeks! How is this possible? Because it grew a huge root system for the first five years, building a foundation from which to rocket upward. The metaphor is hard to ignore. Build your root system. Build your foundation. Because once you have a strong foundation, you can grow just as quickly yourself.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning Explained

10:05
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ This video explains the difference between narrow or applied Artificial Intelligence and general purpose Artificial Intelligence. Examples of narrow AI include IBM's Deep Blue and Watson, Apple's Siri, Google Now, Microsoft Cortana and the Tesla Autonomous Driving Software. They are rule-based platforms. By contrast, general purpose AI includes platforms like AlphaGo and the program that recreated the Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC). In both cases, they were given enormous amounts of data and were then allowed to create their own rules. And in both cases, once complete, the researchers who created the software could no longer understand what the computer was doing. Patrick Schwerdtfeger is a leading authority on technology trends including big data, machine learning and the social media revolution. He regularly covers these topics at business conferences and conventions all around the world. Please contact us to check availability for your upcoming event.

Generational Marketing and Demographic Forecasting

11:03
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ There are currently six (6) generations alive in the United States. The GI generation fought in World War II. The Silent Generation grew up during the Depression. The Baby Boomers were born after the war. Generation X followed thereafter. Generation Y (also known as the Millennial Generation) is now the largest generation in American history and the next generation (currently unnamed) is just getting started. Since these generations are different sizes, they increase and decrease demand for age-related products like engagement rings, baby clothes, motorcycles, houses and luxury mattresses. Much of this is discussed in "The Age Curve" by Kenneth Gronbach and it represents an enormous opportunity for savvy marketers to understand, plan and forecast marketing opportunities.

Population Growth is Bad for the Planet, but it's Great for the Economy!

12:32
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ This video discusses how population growth adds directly to economic activity and GDP but does so at the expense of natural resources and environmental sustainability. It also discusses how population growth combines with standard of living to determine the total impact on domestic GDP. For example, poor countries with minimal infrastructure may have exploding populations but the standard of living is dropping at the same time, leaving their GDP unchanged in some cases.

Higher Productivity means Higher Unemployment

05:00
http://www.patrickschwerdtfeger.com/sbi/ When you watch the evening news and hear that "productivity" has gone up in the workforce, it sounds like good news but there a negative side effect as well. Higher productivity means it took fewer people to make the same amount of goods and services, and that leads directly to higher unemployment. Companies are getting better and better at making a profit while employing fewer people and that means our persistently higher unemployment rates (and underemployed rates) will remain high until our economy grows enough to warrant sufficient hiring.
