Importing Data from Excel into Oracle Database using SQL Developer 4.1

02:23
One of SQL Developer’s most popular features has undergone a significant upgrade. Users can quickly define and recall delimited or Excel files to be imported to a new or existing Oracle table. Data preview and validation is provided for each column, as well as ‘best guess’ data type and date format mask mapping. This process can now be automated via the SQL Developer command line interface (SDCLI) ‘Import’ command. NOTE: This is a video only. There is no audio. Copyright © 2015 Oracle and/or its affiliates. An Introduction to Temporal Databases

50:09
Check out http://www.pgconf.us/2015/event/83/ for the full talk details. In the past manipulating temporal data was rather ad hoc and in the form of simple solutions. Today organizations strongly feel the need to support temporal data in a coherent way. Consequently, there is an increasing interest in temporal data and major database vendors recently provide tools for storing and manipulating temporal data. However, these tools are far from being complete in addressing the main issues in handling temporal data. The presentation uses the relational data model in addressing the subtle issues in managing temporal data: comparing database states at two different time points, capturing the periods for concurrent events and accessing to times beyond these periods, sequential semantics, handling multi-valued attributes, temporal grouping and coalescing, temporal integrity constraints, rolling the database to a past state and restructuring temporal data, etc. It also lays the foundation in managing temporal data in NoSQL databases as well. Having ranges as a data type PostgresSQL has a solid base in implementing a temporal database that can address many of these issues successfully. About the Speaker Abdullah Uz Tansel is professor of Computer Information Systems at the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College and Computer Science PhD program at the Graduate Center. His research interests are database management systems, temporal databases, data mining, and semantic web. Dr. Tansel published many articles in the conferences and journals of ACM and IEEE. Dr. Tansel has a pending patent application on semantic web. Currently, he is researching temporality in RDF and OWL, which are semantic web languages. Dr. Tansel served in program committees of many conferences and headed the editorial board that published the first book on temporal databases in 1993. He is also one the editors of the forth coming book titled Recommendation and Search in Social Networks to be published by Springer. He received BS, MS and PhD degrees from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara Turkey. He also completed his MBA degree in the University of Southern California. Dr. Tansel is a member of ACM and IEEE Computer Society.

Airbus on Using Oracle Big Data Appliance to Analyze Aircraft Sensor Data

03:18
Jean-Marc Wattecant, from Airbus Flight & Integration Test Centre Data Processing, attended Oracle OpenWorld 2014 and spoke with us about their use of Oracle's Big Data Appliance. Airbus chose the Appliance for data management on their prototype aircraft. They connected a lot of sensors which are collecting a lot of data which they need to analyze faster and faster in order to meet their test schedule. Airbus believes that the Oracle Big Data Appliance is a significant enabler for them for many projects and will reduce not only the time to test prototypes, but also the time to market as well. They plan to expand their big data project with Oracle's big data mining and discovery tools to go beyond reactive to proactive analytics.

AN EFFICIENT PREDICTION OF CANCER USING DATA MINING TECHNIQUE

11:59
Cancer is one of the major causes of death when compared to all other diseases. Cancer has become the most hazardous types of disease among the living creature in the world. Early detection of cancer is essential in reducing life losses. This work aims to establish an accurate classification model for Cancer prediction, in order to make full use of the invaluable information in clinical data. The dataset is divided into training set and test set. In this experiment, we compare six classification techniques in Weka software and comparison results show that Support Vector Machine (SVM) has higher prediction accuracy than those methods. Different methods for cancer detection are explored and their accuracies are compared. With these results, we infer that the SVM are more suitable in handling the classification problem of cancer prediction, and we recommend the use of these approaches in similar classification problems. This work presents a comparison among the different Data mining classifiers on the database of cancer, by using classification accuracy.

Ensuring Your Oracle RAC Databases Meet Your Business Objectives at Runtime

45:15
Over a decade ago Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) brought the required enterprise level scalability and availability functionality necessary to support Oracle databases in business critical applications. This session will introduce an Oracle RAC database classification framework that supports measuring and monitoring workloads aligned with business applications and their objectives and specified via policies to meet changing business criticality. Learn how to use this framework, enhanced in 12.1.0.2 and included in Oracle QoS Management as part of the Oracle RAC license, to classify your 11.2+ database workloads within or across applications, identify actual production runtime performance capability and bottlenecks, and understand and set realizable performance objectives. Learn how these can then be runtime monitored through an EM Cloud Control dashboard and if violated, alerted via EMCC notifications. This session will also cover, new in 12.1.0.2, database workload rankings that govern database startup order and LMS scheduling and how this can be managed through the same performance policies.
