Embedding Artificial Intelligence in Spreadsheet by Santosh Vutukuri at #ODSC_India
In today's world all of us are growing our data science capabilities. There are many such organizations who think they are comfortable in spreadsheets (e.g. Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, IBM Lotus, Apache OpenOffice Calc, Apple Numbers etc.), and they seriously do not want to switch into complex coding using R or Python, and not even into any other analytics tools available in the market. This proposal is for demonstrating how we can embed various artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms into spreadsheet and get meaningful insights for business or research benefit. This would be helpful for the small scale businesses from the data analysis perspective. This approach with user friendly interface really creates value in decision making. The Path To Self-Service Analytics: A Success Story by Somesh Saxena, GE
This talk was part of Dataiku's EGG NYC 2018 Conference. The Path To Self-Service Analytics: A Success Story by Somesh Saxena, Technical Product Manager at GE Aviation: The Self-Service Data program at General Electric Aviation has truly enabled the democratization of data and empowered business users to transform and analyze data through the implementation of data cataloging, workflow and visualization tools to drive horizontal outcomes and build data products for the digital industrial company. The program started in late 2016 when the Self-Service Data team from GE Aviation’s Digital Technology group rolled out the Self-Service Data tools. The team partnered with other organizations within the business, such as: engineering, supply chain, sales and marketing, and others, to identify and execute on projects within each group’s domain. Initial training sessions, and open office hours provided by the Self-Service Data team, helped user adoption and provided a sense of ease for non-technical users to work in the shared eco-system of GE’s data lake. Digital Data Analyst, an intensive week-long course teaching digital tools, data science and process excellence, was introduced in 2018. The training program was met with instant success, with over 700 graduates from multiple areas across the business. With a community of over 1,400 Self-Service developers building digital products to make data-driven decisions, the program is front and center of the digital cultural transformation at General Electric Aviation. Somesh Saxena is the Product Owner of Alation and Dataiku at General Electric Aviation. He manages a team of full-stack data engineers and helps lead the Self-Service Data program. Somesh is front and center of the digital cultural transformation at General Electric Aviation, training employees through the Digital Data Analyst training. Mining Software Repository Made Easy - Boa Language and its Data Store
Software repositories, e.g. SourceForge, GitHub, etc. contain an enormous corpus of software and information about software. Scientists and engineers alike are interested in analyzing this wealth of information both for curiosity as well as for testing important research hypotheses. However, the current barrier to entry is prohibitive and the cost of such scientific experiments great. Furthermore, these experiments are often irreproducible. This talk will describe our work on the Boa language and its data-intensive infrastructure. In a nutshell, Boa aims to be for open source-related research as Mathematica is to numerical computing, R is for statistical computing, and Verilog and VHDL is for hardware description. Our evaluation shows that Boa significantly decreases the burden of the scientists and engineers analyzing human and technical aspects of open source software development allowing them to focus on the essential tasks of scientific research. This is a collaborative work with Robert Dyer, Hoan Nguyen and Tien Nguyen all at Iowa State University.

How to Extract Data from a Spreadsheet using VLOOKUP, MATCH and INDEX
When you need to find and extract a column of data from one table and place it in another, use the VLOOKUP function. This function works in any version of Excel in Windows and Mac, and also in Google Sheets. It allows you to find data in one table using some identifier it has in common with another table. The two tables can be on different sheets or even on different workbooks. There is also an HLOOKUP function, which does the same thing, but with data arranged horizontally, across rows. See the companion tutorial on Tuts+ at https://computers.tutsplus.com/tutorials/how-to-extract-data-from-a-spreadsheet-using-vlookup-match-and-index--cms-20641. By Bob Flisser.

Prevent Windows 10 Spying On You, Privacy & Security Matter!
In this version episode of #TechTip I show you how to disable all of the spying features of Windows 10 and get your privacy back. I think Windows 10 is a great operating system once you disable all the data gathering mechanisms and return it back to a pure operating system. I didn't realize this while shooting the video but it makes sense. 2) If you notice Skype Group Chats stop working open up the HOSTS file and remove all of the entries containing MSN. I've had one report of this fixing the problem. ▼ Questions & Answers ▼ Q) I like Cortana so I don't want to disable that feature. A) That is fine, but just realized that Microsoft intentionally made Cortana dependent on the cloud meaning you have to give up your information, searches, contacts, calendar entries, etc to use her. You can't pick and chose what gets sent to Microsoft and still use the feature. It's all or nothing and I think this sends a bad message from Microsoft on what they are actually doing with that data. #TinfoilHat Q) Why do you hate Microsoft so much? A) I don't hate Microsoft, I worked there for 15 years as a Senior Software Developer. Windows is still my preferred platform that I use daily. What I don't like is the direction Microsoft is taking with regards to advertisement and marketing being the focus over the core operating system and innovation. Q) You should just run Linux! A) I like Linux but it's not in any position to be a replacement for an operating system like Windows. There is no Adobe support on Linux and it's not ideal for mainstream content creators and software developers. But who knows what the future holds if Microsoft keeps going down this dark street. Q) What is telemetry? A) It's Microsoft collecting data on your computer, what you search for, usage patterns, application usage, etc so they can analyze the data or use it for marketing. ** Full Disclosure: I worked at Microsoft for 15 years as a Software Developer and was laid off well over a year ago when Microsoft decided to get rid of the entire Windows test organization that I worked in. My goal is educate people on the best way to protect themselves while using Microsoft Windows because I still think it's the best operating system out there and I don't want to see Microsoft ruin that reputation by spying on all it's customers - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRV6PXB6QLk ▼ Support me by sending BitCoin (Wallet Address) ▼ 18Su2PV63BabMZWwYEhgXC8obK1XBVveCp ▼ Get 10% off Kinesis Split Ergonomic Keyboards & Pedals ▼ http://www.kinesis-ergo.com/ [use code 'Barnacules' at checkout to get 10% off] ▼ Join my [email protected] team and help cure diseases with spare CPU/GPU cycles ▼ Barnacules Nerdgasm Team # 231300 Download Client @ http://folding.stanford.edu/ ** Top 10 contributers shown on Twitter weekly! ▼ I am now live streaming on Twitch so come give me a follow to receive notifications when I'm streaming ▼ https://www.twitch.tv/barnacules 💥 See my Amazon Store for all the products I use & review 💥 https://www.amazon.com/shop/barnacules1

DEFCON 17: Dangerous Minds: The Art of Guerrilla Data Mining
Speaker: Mark Ryan Del Moral Talabis Senior Consultant, Secure-DNA Consulting It is not a secret that in today's world, information is as valuable or maybe even more valuable that any security tool that we have out there. Information is the key. That is why the US Information Awareness Office's (IAO) motto is "scientia est potential", which means "knowledge is power". The IAO just like the CIA, FBI and others make information their business. Aside from these there are multiple military related projects like TALON,ECHELON, ADVISE, and MATRIX that are concerned with information gathering and analysis. The goal of the Veritas Project is to model itself in the same general threat intelligence premise as the organization above but primarily based on community sharing approach and using tools, technologies, and techniques that are freely available. Often, concepts that are part of artificial intelligence, data mining, and text mining are thought to be highly complex and difficult. Don't mistake me, these concepts are indeed difficult, but there are tools out there that would facilitate the use of these techniques without having to learn all the concepts and math behind these topics. And as sir Isaac Newton once said, "If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants". The combination of all the techniques presented in this site is what we call "Guerrilla Data Mining". It's supposed to be fast, easy, and accessible to anyone. The techniques provides more emphasis on practicality than theory. For example, these tools and techniques presented can be used to visualize trends (e.g. security trends over time), summarize large and diverse data sets (forums, blogs, irc), find commonalities (e.g. profiles of computer criminals) gather a high level understanding of a topic (e.g. the US economy, military activities), and automatically categorize different topics to assist research (e.g. malware taxonomy). Aside from the framework and techniques themselves, the Veritas Project hopes to present a number of current ongoing studies that uses "guerilla data mining". Ultimately, our goal is to provide as much information in how each study was done so other people can generate their own studies and share them through the project. The following studies are currently available and will be presented: For more information visit: http://bit.ly/defcon17_information To download the video visit: http://bit.ly/defcon17_videos

Data mining
Data mining (the analysis step of the "Knowledge Discovery in Databases" process, or KDD), an interdisciplinary subfield of computer science, is the computational process of discovering patterns in large data sets involving methods at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistics, and database systems. The overall goal of the data mining process is to extract information from a data set and transform it into an understandable structure for further use. Aside from the raw analysis step, it involves database and data management aspects, data pre-processing, model and inference considerations, interestingness metrics, complexity considerations, post-processing of discovered structures, visualization, and online updating. The term is a misnomer, because the goal is the extraction of patterns and knowledge from large amount of data, not the extraction of data itself. It also is a buzzword, and is frequently also applied to any form of large-scale data or information processing (collection, extraction, warehousing, analysis, and statistics) as well as any application of computer decision support system, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and business intelligence. The popular book "Data mining: Practical machine learning tools and techniques with Java" (which covers mostly machine learning material) was originally to be named just "Practical machine learning", and the term "data mining" was only added for marketing reasons. Often the more general terms "(large scale) data analysis", or "analytics" -- or when referring to actual methods, artificial intelligence and machine learning -- are more appropriate. However, how to effectively use and update discovered patterns is still an open research issue, especially in the domain of text mining. Since most existing text mining methods adopted term-based approaches, they all suffer from the problems of polysemy and synonymy. Over the years, people have often held the hypothesis that pattern (or phrase)-based approaches should perform better than the term-based ones, but many experiments do not support this hypothesis. This paper presents an innovative and effective pattern discovery technique which includes the processes of pattern deploying and pattern evolving, to improve the effectiveness of using and updating discovered patterns for finding relevant and interesting information. Substantial experiments on RCV1 data collection and TREC topics demonstrate that the proposed solution achieves encouraging performance.

DEFCON 19: Stealing Sensitive Data from Thousands of Systems Simultaneously with OpenDLP
Speaker: Andrew Gavin Consultant, Verizon Business Got domain admin to a couple of thousand Windows systems? Got an hour to spare? Steal sensitive data from all of these systems simultaneously in under an hour with OpenDLP. OpenDLP is an open source, agent-based, massively distributable, centrally managed data discovery program that runs as a service on Windows systems and is controlled from a centralized web application. The agent is written in C, has no .NET requirements, uses PCREs for pattern matching, reads inside ZIPs like Office 2007 and OpenOffice files, runs as a low priority service so users do not see or feel it, and securely transmits results to the centralized web application on a regular basis. The web application distributes, installs, and uninstalls agents over SMB; allows you to create reusable profiles, view results in realtime, and mark false positives; and exports results as XML. OpenDLP also supports scanning databases for sensitive information. It can also perform agentless scans of Windows systems over SMB and UNIX/Linux systems over SSH.
