Vitalik Buterin explains Ethereum

03:28
3 minute explanation of Ethereum by inventor Vitalik Buterin. Ethereum is a platform that makes it possible for any developer to write and distribute next-generation decentralized applications. Borrowing the concept of distributed consensus and cryptographic proof that makes cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin so effective in trustless payments, Ethereum extends the use of these technologies to trustless agreements. This allows developers to easily build innovative new products on a censorship and collusion-resistant foundation. Ethereum will go live in Q4 2014, in the meantime we are regularly releasing alpha software so you can try your hand at building distributed applications. What is Blockchain? | Blockchain Technology| What is Blockchain in Simple Terms?

08:17
You dont understand Bitcoin, Blockchain, Ledger, Miner (Notes)? Learn what is Blockchain? | Blockchain Technology | What is Blockchain in Simple Terms? Block chain is the link between business and technology. Bitcoin and Blockchain Bitcoin is digital currency, a currency which is digital. Block chain, on the other hand, is the technology that enables moving bitcoin from one person to another. Blockchain helps solve the problem of money transfer. For example, James who lives in Germany wants to send money to Adam who lives in Switzerland. The conventional way is that a trusted third party, normally a bank, gets involved between these two persons to facilitate this transfer of money. James contacts his bank to send money to Adam. The bank identifies Adam as the intended receiver of the money through his bank account. And the money from James bank account is transferred to Adam’s in Switzerland. And for providing this service the bank charges a fee. This process normally takes 2 to 5 days, depending on several factors. Blockchain, on the other hand does three things. One, it removes the third-party from money transfer. Two, the transfer takes almost no time at all. And three it is cheaper. Let’s take a look at the function of blockchain in a little detail. Free Webinar: https://app.webinarjam.net/register/32928/a8cde8799f Blockchain: Under the Hood The concept of open ledger is crucial in understanding blockchain. Suppose there is a network of four people who want to move money from one another. At inception, A has 10 euros. This amount along with its owner is registered in the ledger. Now A wants to send five euros to B. this transaction will be added to the current ledger as a chain. Now person B wants to send three euros to person C. The previous process will be repeated to add this transaction to the ledger. And finally, C wants to send one euro to D. And this gets recorded the same way. This is the concept of open ledger, and the way the transactions are linked one after another is why it is called blockchain. This chain of money transaction is open and public to everyone. The beauty of open ledger is that everyone in the network has the same information about the flow of money and how much every individual has. Also, everyone is a party to decide whether a transaction is valid or not. For instance, if A tries to send 20 euors to D, it will not be added to the ledger because it is not a valid transaction. Everyone in the network knows that now A has only five euros therefore, this transaction will not become a part of the chain. The second principle of blockchain is decentralization. Right now this open ledger seems centralized. To change this, blockchain provides a distributed ledger. It takes the centralized open ledger and distributes it. So anyone in the network can have the copy of the ledger, and this eliminates the need for a centralized trusted entity. But this also creates a problem; if anyone can have the copy of the ledger then to maintain the accuracy all the copies need to be exactly the same. Any change occurring in the open ledger needs to be recorded at the same time in all copies that the network participants possess. The ledger is distributed across various nodes (a node is just a unit in a network). For simplicity you can think of a node as one person, in a network or many people. Let’s see how this distributed ledger gets synchronized. Suppose B wants to send 5euros to D. To do that B will publicly broadcast his intention to the entire network. And everyone in the network will immediately see that B wants to send 5euors to D. But this transaction is not valid yet. Before we go any further we must understand the concept of ‘miners’. Miners are special nodes (or people) that can hold the ledger. Let’s assume that C and A are miners. Now this gets interesting because the way a transaction is validated is based on a competition. When A and C observe an invalid transaction, they will both compete to validate it and add it to the ledger first. The miner who wins this race, gets a financial reward. Let’s understand what it takes to win this race. A miner needs to do two things. First, he needs to validate the transaction. This is easy, because the ledger is open and anyone can calculate whether a person has enough funds to make that transaction. The second part is difficult, where the miner needs to find a key that enables him to actually add the new transaction to the ledger chain. How does a miner find the key? Well, he needs to invest computational power and time to find the key because it’s found through a random search. How the blockchain will radically transform the economy | Bettina Warburg

14:58
Say hello to the decentralized economy -- the blockchain is about to change everything. In this lucid explainer of the complex (and confusing) technology, Bettina Warburg describes how the blockchain will eliminate the need for centralized institutions like banks or governments to facilitate trade, evolving age-old models of commerce and finance into something far more interesting: a distributed, transparent, autonomous system for exchanging value. Blockchain 101 - Part 2 - Public / Private Keys and Signing

08:54
This is part two in my basic visual introduction to the concepts behind a blockchain. We build on the concepts from the previous video and introduce public / private key pairs and signing using an interactive web demo. If you missed it, part 1 is here: https://youtu.be/_160oMzblY8 If you are interested in playing with this on your own, it is available online at: http://anders.com/blockchain/public-private-keys/ The code that runs this demo is also on GitHub: https://github.com/anders94/public-private-key-demo If you want to know more about how public key cryptography works, see the Wikipedia page on it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public-key_cryptography The details of how public keys relate to private keys are hard to summarize, but it has to do with Euler's theorem. Basically, using Euler's theorem there is some math you can do to a number given some parameters (which I'll call the public key) which allows someone with some other parameters (which I'll call the private key) to decipher the original number without having to do brute force factorization because there is a shortcut way to find the phi of a prime number. Rather than me butchering the explanation, check this video series out for a more detailed explanation: https://www.khanacademy.org/computing/computer-science/cryptography/modern-crypt/v/the-fundamental-theorem-of-arithmetic-1 I'm @anders94 on Twitter and @andersbrownworth on Steemit. What If the Internet Could Not Tell a Lie? Blockchain, Fake News, Rumor Mills | Brian Behlendorf

04:38
Imagine a world where facts rule the Internet, and lies and rumors are stripped of their disguises before they can do damage. That's actually possible, explains tech expert Brian Behlendorf, the executive director of the Hyperledger Project (who was also a primary developer of the Apache HTTP Server, the most widely used web server in the world). Although a completely truthful Internet might be dull, and a little totalitarian, it would be sweet relief for all digital citizens if someone could end fake news. Distributed ledger technology like Blockchain could do that, says Behlendorf, by changing the way organizations collect and store data. If data were decentralized or transparent on an unmodifiable Blockchain, it would be almost impossible to attack the source or integrity of someone's data on that open ledger. "I view distributed ledger technology as the closest thing we have in the technology field to being able to say something is a fact," says Behlendorf. A distributed ledger system could also be used to help us check our confirmation biases in response to fake news. Currently, central providers like Facebook and Google can alert you to news sources that may be less than factual, but imagine a decentralized version, like a Yelp for news media, with experts who score platforms on their integrity, as well as crowd-contributed ratings. In the future, what if the Internet helped resolve controversy instead of cranking the rumor mill? Read more at BigThink.com: http://bigthink.com/videos/brian-behlendorf-is-blockchain-the-only-real-solution-to-fake-news Follow Big Think here: YouTube: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkdotcom Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigthink Transcript: So, the question is: can distributed ledger technology, can blockchain technology be used to fight fake news? And you know it’s funny, I view distributed ledger technology as the closest thing we have in the technology field to being able to say something is a fact. If we’ve recorded a Bitcoin transaction, essentially we have an entire network witnessing that I’ve sent you some number of Bitcoin or some number of a digital asset, a huge number. And now I can't deny that I made that transaction and you can't deny that I made that transaction and that is a really powerful thing. In a way it's kind of like Wikipedia when somebody puts something in there and everyone has seen that and if it's wrong it gets removed, that’s something as well that’s coming to be accepted as factual. So I think the possibility of using distributed ledgers to record data that is of really high quality because it’s being recorded when it happens, it's being witnessed by a large number of people and thus made undeniable, immutable, in this ledger. We have a chance of creating a body of data that can come to be trusted in a way that data normally can’t. Think about the debate over climate change; there’s not only been attacks on, 'Do you have the right weather model? Are you really showing this?' but attacks on the fundamental collection of that data in the first place. Imagine if instead of debating whether you had the right data or I had the right data or a piece of data goes missing or an entire dataset goes missing when there’s a change in political administration, let’s say, instead of that imagine if instead we had weather sensors and air quality sensors on a hundred rooftops in every major capital around the world collecting this data and publishing it to a public ledger. The next tier up though, which is really what people talk about when they think about fake news, is analysis, interpretation, claims, but also rumor. When somebody hears a rumor of something very scurrilous happening and it correlates with what they want to believe, chances are they’ll believe it and they’ll pass it off to their friends. And so you start to see companies like Facebook and Google and others starting to implement systems that when you forward a link to a friend that comes from a source that is known to be of questionable quality, they’ll pop up a little warning that says, 'According to Snopes.com or according to the AP or somebody this article might not be factual.' That’s something you can do when you’re a central provider like Facebook or like Google, but wouldn’t it be great to do that in a decentralized way? When somebody sends you a news link to a website you’ve never heard of before, not The New York Times, not AP or Fox News or whatever, where you have some context, but it’s some other link somewhere else, how much should you trust that? Well a lot of folks have talked about building a distributed ledger system for recording thrust in media sources. So here’s a website, here’s people that we recognize, like Snopes, as authorities on whether something is true or not, but why not you be able to publish something to that chain as well, or me, that says, 'This does seem to be right to me or this doesn’t seem to be right.'

You may like playing The Sims, but Elon Musk says you are the Sim. Check out the full cartoon by Alvin Chang: http://www.vox.com/technology/2016/6/23/12007694/elon-musk-simulation-cartoon Elon Musk thinks we are living in a simulated reality. Nick Bostrom think those chances are more around 20 percent. The chances of human kind participating in a simulated reality is broken down into three options: 1) humans go extinct before we are able to run a simulation of this size. 2) Humans are uninterested in running ancestor simulations. 3) We are currently participating in the simulation. Ulterior States [IamSatoshi Documentary]

Ulterior States A Film By Tomer Kantor - An IamSatoshi Production Tip bitcoin: 1NkMgKPdwP63q5LFQW84dczJthFWYLwkoW http://www.iamsatoshi.com/ulterior-states-documentary Featuring (alphabetically): Andreas Antonopoulos Julian Assange Jessi Baker Adam Cleary Matt Corallo Sven Desai Kyle Drake Stephen Early Mark Edge Chris Ellis Rick Falkvinge Paul Gordon Ian Grigg Vinay Gupta Jonathan Harrison Daniel Hassan Garrick Hileman Denis Jaromil Roio John Karanja Toni Lane Simon Lelieveldt Nadav Rosenberg Brett Scott Lui Smyth Elizabeth Starks Amir Taaki Robin Teigland Peter Todd Julia Tourianski Sveinn Valfells Erik Voorhees Cody Wilson Titles Design: Louis Chang Poster Design: Ofer Kantor Ulterior States, an IamSatoshi production, is an argumentative documentary project. The participatory development, production and post ‘guerilla-film-making-methods’, bounced between (non-academic) literature research, video interviews and studio sessions. This investigative process allowed having real-life conversations with some thought leaders within the Bitcoin ecosystem. In an attempt to portray the community behind the message to adopt a network, being a one-man team allowed for easier access to the subjects. The enthusiasm and commitment that saturate through the lens in many parts of the film, expose how the adopters of Bitcoin want to explore, to probe and, to show the world, something important, otherwise overlooked. The film took three years and 125 videos to complete. Through this journey, I got immersed in the decentralised crypto-currency culture and met a bunch of wonderful futuristic-pirates, I would have never met otherwise. It is becoming easier to admit that Ulterior States is an expression of my perceptions, an extract of the years 2012-2015. The collaged story explores code as activism and discovers a melting pot through the neutrality of a decentralised consensus. It looks to the future from different humanist perspectives and argues that crypto-currencies could lead towards; community governed micro-state applications. Winner of Berlin Independent Film Festival 2018 Micro Budget Feature Ulterior States was completely self-funded and produced as a final project for London South Bank University [MA - Arts & Humanity - Digital Film]. Bell's Theorem: The Quantum Venn Diagram Paradox

Even though Albert Einstein (together with collaborators in the EPR Paradox paper) wanted to show that quantum mechanics must be incomplete because it was nonlocal (he didn't like "spooky action at a distance"), John Bell managed to prove that any local real hidden variable theory would have to satisfy certain simple statistical properties that quantum mechanical experiments (and the theory that describes them) violate. Since then, GHZ and others have managed to extend the theoretical work, and Alain Aspect performed the first Bell test experiment in the late 1980s. Everything You Need to Know About 5G

06:15
Millimeter waves, massive MIMO, full duplex, beamforming, and small cells are just a few of the technologies that could enable ultrafast 5G networks. Read more: http://spectrum.ieee.org/video/telecom/wireless/everything-you-need-to-know-about-5g Today’s mobile users want faster data speeds and more reliable service. The next generation of wireless networks—5G—promises to deliver that, and much more. With 5G, users should be able to download a high-definition film in under a second (a task that could take 10 minutes on 4G LTE). And wireless engineers say these networks will boost the development of other new technologies, too, such as autonomous vehicles, virtual reality, and the Internet of Things. If all goes well, telecommunications companies hope to debut the first commercial 5G networks in the early 2020s. Right now, though, 5G is still in the planning stages, and companies and industry groups are working together to figure out exactly what it will be. But they all agree on one matter: As the number of mobile users and their demand for data rises, 5G must handle far more traffic at much higher speeds than the base stations that make up today’s cellular networks. Blockchain Beyond Bitcoin - with Vinay Gupta | Virtual Futures Salon

01:32:20
Virtual Futures presents tech-visionary Vinay Gupta to dicuss cryptocurrencies and the uptake of the blockchain in all its applications. This event is organised in partnership with the Department of Economics at the University of Warwick as part of their 360 Lecture Series. Blockchain, also known as distributed ledger technology, has attracted a great deal of attention due to the hype surrounding cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. Whilst blockchain technology might be able to drive economic change globally, the applications are innumerable. Among others, the implications include empowering impoverished individuals by bypassing banks for payments, generating personalized identities for voting, securing healthcare data, improving supply chain logistics, and allowing business to be carried out transparently. Vinay will share his thoughts on how a technology that permits secure and transparent solutions might transform the next decade. Vinay Gupta is a leading figure in the blockchain space. He is the co-founder of Mattereum, co-ordinated the release of the blockchain platform Ethereum in July 2015, and was strategic architect for ConsenSys, a technology hub focusing on the Ethereum blockchain and related applications. He was the designer of the National Blockchain Strategy for Dubai and is a partner at Hexayurt Capital, the technology-focused VC firm behind the Internet of Agreements. He has been involved in commercial software development since 1992 and his experience as a programmer and visionary has covered fields as diverse as medical imaging, flight simulation, computer graphics, cryptographic applications and the web. Some people suggest they may be a better fit on Brady's dedicated physics channel (called Sixty Symbols). In response, the reasons they are on Numberphile are: 1) Tadashi, while certainly a modern polymath, is based in a mathematics department. 2) This sub series (with its animation and extra production work) has been supported by the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute, a Numberphile collaborator. 3) Some of the previous and future Tadashi videos are more math-oriented than physics - and it just makes sense to put them on one channel rather than dividing the series between two channels on an ad hoc basis. In a multi-disciplinary world, it is challenging to run YouTube channels which people come to associate with just one discipline. That said, feel free to go over and watch hundreds of physics videos on Sixty Symbols --- https://www.youtube.com/sixtysymbols

Buying Bitcoin Vs $500 Aldi 3D Printer Cryptocurrency Gamble

19:30
Is Bitcoin or Ethereum the easiest way to make money? I invested $500 from the money I saved by missing out on the ALDI 3D Printer into Bitcoin. In a week that $500 has grown to over $600 and the proof is on my phone. The Bitcoin price is exploding to new record highs but be careful Bitcoin also can plummet in price. Bitcoin has doubled in price in very short time and thats scary. For many months Bitcoin could not jump the price of Gold. Now with Bitcoin accepted in Japan the markets have exploded and we can now see one of the biggest Bitcoin price jumps in the crypto currency's history. Can this price rally continue to see a Bitcoin price breaking the $10000 mark. Or will Bitcoin trip and pull back under the Gold price as some predict. Is China pumping money into the Bitcoin markets as the stock market there shows signs of instability. Bitcoin is a highly volatile digital asset. You really need to do your homework before playing on any Bitcoin markets. The Bitcoin price and exchange fees have huge variations. Storing Bitcoins and keeping it safe from thieves is a complex topic but essential to understand if your going to invest in Bitcoin. Buyer be very aware, I hope my experience and experiment in buying $500 of Bitcoin will educate you in this mysterious digital asset. How will my $500 Bitcoin investment evolve over a year? Can I buy multiple $500 Aldi 3D printers next year or will Bitcoin go bust! Bitcoin websites seen in this video are blurred out. I have no commercial links to any bitcoin markets or sellers. Anyone posting links to Bitcoin selling sites and exchanges will be blocked and reported as spam. Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency and a digital payment system invented by an unknown programmer, or a group of programmers, under the name Satoshi Nakamoto. It was released as open-source software in 2009. The system is peer-to-peer, and transactions take place between users directly, without an intermediary. These transactions are verified by network nodes and recorded in a public distributed ledger called the blockchain. Since the system works without a central repository or single administrator, bitcoin is called the first decentralized digital currency. The Bitcoin Gospel - VPRO documentary - 2015

48:53
Is bitcoin the blueprint for a bankless currency, or the biggest pyramid scheme ever? When the financial world collapsed in 2008, a mysterious genius under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto presented the architecture for the perfect, bankless currency. Bitcoins can't be forged, and can be transferred worldwide with one click of a button, without transaction costs. Up till today, nobody knows who Nakamoto is, but his invention of the first decentralized cryptocurrency became world-famous within a couple of years. ‘Bitcoin Jesus’ Roger Ver invested massively in bitcoins when they were still worth less than a dollar, and in 2013 he saw the bitcoin exchange rate reaching as much as 1000 dollars. What’s the bottom line, now that this globally disruptive currency has grown to maturity? Is bitcoin the blueprint for fair money, separated from banks or states, or will it be a new hierarchy from haves and have-nots? How secure is 256 bit security?

05:06
Supplement to the cryptocurrency video: How hard is it to find a 256-bit hash just by guessing and checking? What kind of computer would that take? Cryptocurrency video: https://youtu.be/bBC-nXj3Ng4 Thread for Q&A questions: http://3b1b.co/questions Several people have commented about how 2^256 would be the maximum number of attempts, not the average. This depends on the thing being attempted. If it's guessing a private key, you are correct, but for something like guessing which input to a hash function gives a desired output (as in bitcoin mining, for example), which is the kind of thing I had in mind here, 2^256 would indeed be the average number of attempts needed, at least for a true cryptographic hash function. Think of rolling a die until you get a 6, how many rolls do you need to make, on average? From Bitcoin To Hashgraph (Documentary) Hidden Secrets Of Money Episode 8

01:14:26
Bonus Features: http://www.hiddensecretsofmoney.com Today, mankind stands at a crossroads, and the path that humanity chooses may have a greater impact on our freedom and prosperity than any event in history. In 2008 a new technology was introduced that is so important that its destiny, and the destiny of mankind are inextricably linked. It is so powerful that if captured and controlled, it could enslave all of humanity. But if allowed to remain free and flourish - it could foster unimaginable levels of peace and prosperity. It has the power to replace all financial systems globally, to supplant ninety percent of Wall St, and to provide some functions of government. It has no agenda. It's always fair and impartial. It can not be manipulated, subverted, corrupted or cheated. And - it inverts the power structure and places control of one's destiny in the hands of the individual. In the future, when we look back at the 2.6 million-year timeline of human development and the major turning points that led to modern civilization - the creation of farming, the domestication of animals, the invention of the wheel, the harnessing of electricity and the splitting of the atom - the sixty year development of computers, the internet and this new technology will be looked upon as a single event...a turning point that will change the course of human history. It's called Full Consensus Distibuted Ledger Technology, and so far its major use has been for cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin....but its potential goes far, far beyond that. The Crypto Revolution: From Bitcoin to Hashgraph is our latest episode of Hidden Secrets of Money. It’s about the evolution of cryptocurrencies and full consensus distributed ledger technology, and how they will change our world. I believe that this video is by far the easiest way for the average person to gain an understanding of what cryptocurrencies are and how they work, but more importantly, the immense power of full consensus distributed ledger technology and the impact it will have on our daily lives. I have an absolute passion for monetary history and economics, and I love teaching them. Cryptocurrencies are our future, and there is no escaping it… this is the way everything will be done from now on. But, we now stand at a crucial turning point in history. Full consensus ledgers such as Blockchain and Hashgraph have the power to enslave us, or free us… it all depends on how we choose to use them. If we choose to support centralized versions issued by governments and the financial sector we will be granting them more control over our daily lives. Politicians and bureaucrats will be able raise taxes instantly, whenever they want, on every dollar you make as you make them, and every dollar you spend as you spend them. If they think the economy needs stimulating they'll be able to enforce huge negative interest rates, effectively punishing you for not spending everything you earn before you earn it. They'll be able to decide where you can go and where you can’t, what you can buy and what you can’t, and what you can do and whatever they decide you can’t do… and if they don't like you, they can just disconnect you from the monetary system. So, will the monetary system become fully distributed and help to free mankind, or will it be centralized and enslave us? The choice is in front of us right now, and our decisions will create our future. I believe that this will be a binary outcome, there is no middle ground, it will either be one future or the other. The question is, will it be the future we want? Or the future they want? I’m a precious metals dealer and one thing I’ve learned is that gold, silver, and now free market decentralized cryptocurrencies, represent freedom. Because of this knowledge I started investing in crypto currencies long ago and also became one of the first precious metals dealers to accept bitcoin as payment for gold and silver. I would really appreciate it if you could share this video with everyone you know. I think it’s very important that as many people as possible find out about the changes to the global monetary system that are happening right now… nothing will affect us more, and everyone’s future depends on it. Prof. Silvio Micali: A New Scalable and Secure Approach to Byzantine Fault Tolerant Consensus (169)

01:18:02
Support the show, consider donating: 1L19WwToTupNCiay9w4Zdg7uMwuU2isKDL (http://bit.ly/2jHyAwM) There is no doubt that proof of work, introduced in the Bitcoin white paper, has stood the test of time as a robust and resilient Byzantine Fault Tolerant consensus mechanism. However, many issues may prevent Nakamoto Consensus from securely scaling over the long term. The risk of validator centralization, network forking, block scarcity and high energy costs required to mine a block have all been extensively debated with no realistic long-term solutions to date. A new paper titled "Algorand" attempts to addresses these problems. We're pleased to be joined by Professor Silvio Micali, a computer scientist at MIT, who is known for his work in many of the technologies blockchains rely on today. As one of the co-inventors of zero-knowledge proofs, he has been decorated with a number of prizes and awards, including the Turing Award, which he received in 2012 for his work in cryptography. Prof. Micali describes the concept of Algorand, an alternative approach to proof of work which offers high security guarantees while allowing the network to scale with demand. Relying only on a trivial amount of computation to validate transactions, Algorand also reduces the probability of network forks to near-zero. It uses novel mechanisms to select validators for blocks and enabling them to come to consensus on them. Topics discussed in this episode: - Professor Micali's fascinating career in the fields of computer science and cryptography - The technical limitations of proof of work - The ideal properties for a truly decentralized, secure and scalable cryptocurrency - Algorand's new approach to Byzantine consensus - Algorand's strong adversarial model - How validators are randomly selected by the network - How validators are chosen and how they arrive at consensus - How Algorand guarantees a low probability of network forks - How Algorand addresses the issue of scaling and block size - Algorand's roadmap and future plans Links mentioned in this episode: - Algorand White Paper: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1607.01341v7.pdf - Algorand talk by Silvo Micali on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xauku8XWoSE - Silvio Micali - Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silvio_Micali Sponsors: - Jaxx: Wallets that Unify the Blockchain Experience Across Devices - http://jaxx.io This episode is also available on : - Epicenter.tv: https://epicenter.tv/169 - YouTube: http://youtu.be/a40Xt7GnPvs - Souncloud: http://soundcloud.com/epicenterbitcoin/eb-169 Watch or listen, Epicenter is available wherever you get your podcasts. The Third Industrial Revolution: A Radical New Sharing Economy

01:44:59
The global economy is in crisis. The exponential exhaustion of natural resources, declining productivity, slow growth, rising unemployment, and steep inequality, forces us to rethink our economic models. Where do we go from here? In this feature-length documentary, social and economic theorist Jeremy Rifkin lays out a road map to usher in a new economic system. A Third Industrial Revolution is unfolding with the convergence of three pivotal technologies: an ultra-fast 5G communication internet, a renewable energy internet, and a driverless mobility internet, all connected to the Internet of Things embedded across society and the environment. This 21st century smart digital infrastructure is giving rise to a radical new sharing economy that is transforming the way we manage, power and move economic life. But with climate change now ravaging the planet, it needs to happen fast. Change of this magnitude requires political will and a profound ideological shift. Like I said in the introduction, Andreas is the one who really helped me wrap my head around the bigger concepts surrounding Bitcoin. I know I’m not alone here either. To say that he’s helped many thousands of others to understand Bitcoin would not be a hyperbole. Andreas’s background includes college degrees in Computer Science, Data Communications and Distributed Systems. He’s got lots of experience advising companies and pretty quickly gained a lot of public speaking experience as well. Andreas wasn’t a part of the cypherpunks, actually, he got into Bitcoin in 2012. When I say he “got into Bitcoin”, I mean he *really* focused his efforts on the new digital currency. He’d been warning about the risks of the Mt. Gox exchange in 2013, nearly a year before it collapsed. In 2014 he became a teaching fellow at the first university to offer a Masters degree in Digital Currency. Andreas has written a number of best selling books covering both the technical side of Bitcoin as well as explaining more of the philosophical side of the top cryptocurrency. If you’ve been wanting to expand your own library to include books about cryptocurrency definitely look into: Mastering Bitcoin, The Internet of Money, and The Internet of Money Volume Two. Also for you Ethereum fans, he’ll be releasing one called Mastering Ethereum this coming fall. If you’re not one for reading, he’s also got a youtube channel that is comprised of footage from his many speaking arrangements that span the globe. Chances are you’ll be able to find pretty much any question you could think to ask about Bitcoin or the crypto space as a whole. I can’t emphasize enough how well Andreas is able to convey to his audience not only the ins and outs of Bitcoin in a technical sense, but he’s just amazing at helping people relate to the new digital currency in a way that enables people to see the value and the future for it’s existence. If you ever find yourself worried about the future of Bitcoin or if you’re curious about things like how Lightning Network can improve users experience, I’m going to encourage you to check out his Youtube Channel and his books. Last year word got out that Andreas had been having trouble with his own financial situation. It’s easy to assume that a man who’s been working for Bitcoin and getting paid in Bitcoin for several years would obviously be doing very well for himself. But this wasn’t the case for Andreas, once the Bitcoin community caught wind of this, a number of other influencers urged the community to help Andreas out. Keep in mind this was in December 2017, at the very peak of the price of Bitcoin. Thousands of people made Bitcoin donations and he ended up receiving about 100 BTC. I personally think of Andreas as “the man with all of the words” and I’m not alone with that sentiment. When he realized how the community had rallied behind him and helped him out, Andreas said: “Words are my craft, but tonight I am speechless.” You can’t achieve that amount of universal respect from the entire Bitcoin community unless you are dedicated to consistently providing an unbiased, educated, and passionate stream of information. So if that is something you’re interested in learning more about, remember the name: Andreas Antonopoulos.

Super Hacker George Hotz: I Can Make Your Car Drive Itself for Under $1,000

35:54
Famous or being the first hacker to jailbreak the iPhone at 17, George Hotz is taking on Waymo, Tesla, and Uber in the race to build the first fully operational self-driving car. Subscribe to our YouTube channel: http://youtube.com/reasontv Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Reason.Magazine/ Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/reason Subscribe to our podcast at iTunes: https://goo.gl/az3a7a Reason is the planet's leading source of news, politics, and culture from a libertarian perspective. Go to reason.com for a point of view you won't get from legacy media and old left-right opinion magazines. ---------------- George Hotz, known online as GeoHot, became one of the world's most famous hackers at 17 when he was the first person to break into the iPhone and reconfigure it to be compatible with providers other than AT&T. He was also the first to jailbreak the PlayStation 3, allowing users to play with unauthorized software. Now this 28-year-old technical wunderkind is up against Waymo, Tesla, Uber, and most of the auto industry in the race to build the first fully operational autonomous vehicle. "I want to win self-driving cars," Hotz told Reason. Whereas Tesla and Waymo are developing complex systems with expensive LIDAR and other sensors, his company, Comma.ai, is trying to bring plug-and-play driverless technology to the masses. "We're running it on a phone," says Hotz. He's taking an approach drastically different than his well-financed competition, and is operating with $3.1 million in seed money. Comma's dozen-member team, which works out of a residential house in San Francisco, has built technology that takes over the existing RADAR and drive-by-wire systems in modern cars, incorporates a smartphone's camera and processor, and then makes the car drive itself. "Google is going to lose because there's no market for a $100,000 system," says Hotz. "For us, we're just going to push the software update. And then—boom—you don't have to pay attention anymore. Done." Hotz has a history of taking on tech titans, with mixed reactions. After the iPhone jailbreak, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak sent him a letter of congratulations. After he hacked the PS3, Sony sued him. Hotz quickly became a cause celebre of so-called hacktivist groups including Anonymous and LulzSec. They attacked Sony's network, despite Hotz's protests, igniting a firestorm of legal and media scrutiny. Comma.ai is Hotz's attempt to take on the big players in a new way. The company makes an app called Chiffr that turns a user's phone into a dashcam and monitors its GPS and accelerometers. Now Comma is launching Panda, an open source, $88 dongle that plugs into the car, links it to the phone, and puts out fine-grain detail about every aspect of a drive. Hotz ingests all the data from Chiffr and Panda users and feeds it to his artificial intelligence system, which then learns how to drive. According to Hotz, this approach gives him significant advantages over competitors such as Waymo. His network is entirely crowdsourced and running on some of the most popular cars in the country. He doesn't need to build another expensive, specially designed vehicle and employ a trained driver and an engineer every time he wants to add another data point. And all his data come from real-world experience. Hotz says Waymo and others take a rule-based approach to driving that doesn't reflect the reality of how people operate cars. "The humans ain't changing to match the self-driving spec," he says. "In order to really get access to the full, diverse spectrum of what driving is, you need a huge crowdsourced database." While Tesla's training model is more closely aligned with his, Hotz says the company will similarly be restricted to the high-end market. He got into a public spat with Tesla founder Elon Musk in 2015, after Hotz says the mogul changed the terms of a deal for him to build a better vision system for Tesla's Autopilot than the one supplied by partner company Mobileye. Musk claims Hotz bragged that he could build a better system, and then welched on the bet. "All I said was I could build a better vision system than Mobileye, myself, in 3 months," replies Hotz. "And I kind of did that." For full text and links, go to https://reason.com/reasontv/2017/10/27/george-hotz-self-driving-autonomous-car Produced by Justin Monticello.
