[Wikipedia] Mining industry of Tanzania

04:54
Tanzania is a land rich in minerals. Mining makes up more than 50% of the country’s total exports, of which a large part comes from gold. The country has gold reserves of 45 million ounces, generating revenue of over a billion USD. Diamonds are also found in significant amounts. Since it was opened in 1940, the Williamson diamond mine has produced 19 million carats (3,800 kg) of diamonds. Gemstones, nickel, copper, uranium, kaolin, titanium, cobalt and platinum are also mined in Tanzania. Illegal mining and corruption are ongoing problems. In 2017, the government passed a series of bills aimed at increasing revenue from minerals after a scandal which caused the dismissal of the Minister for Energy and Minerals.

Some people from Shiraz immigrated to this island in 10 century AD. They traveled on sailboats. Ali Ibn Hasan was the first Iranian ruler who established a government in Tanzania. Zanzibar is considered as one of the oldest regions of East Africa and is home to people of different colors and religions. More than 90 percent of some 1 million population of Zanzibar are Muslim. Ali Ibn Hasan went to Zanzibar to begin trading with Eastern Africa. Shirazi people are involved in different religious activities in Zanzibar, including mourning ceremony of Imam Hussein (AS), third Shia imam. They built mosques and invited people of the island to Shi'ism. The history of an ancient Persian bath dates back to 12 A.H. It was built by an Iranian architect upon the order of an Omani king who married a Persian Princess. Zanzibar painters have invented their own unique style of painting. The ancient Iranian tradition of Nowruz was brought to Eastern Coasts of Africa by the Shirazi people as a souvenir. Many people from Zanzibar as well as reporters from all over the world come to the celebration venue to see Nowruz ceremony.

IPPNW-Tagung zu den gesundheitlichen Folgen beim Uranbergbau

07:28

Peak Resources - Tanzania Ngualla Rare Earth Deposit - New Drone Footage

02:39
THE ASSET – THE NGUALLA RARE EARTH DEPOSIT NGUALLA RARE EARTH PROJECT - UNDERSTOOD -DE-RISKED- COMPETITIVE - MANAGEABLE - READY TO BE DELIVERED! Ngualla is one of the world’s largest and highest grade undeveloped neodymium (Nd) & praseodymium (Pr) rare earth projects. The Ngualla Rare Earth Project is centred on the Ngualla Carbonatite in southern Tanzania, 147 kilometres from the city of Mbeya on the edge of the East African Rift Valley. The name ‘Ngualla’ comes from the Swahili word for ‘bald head’, which reflects the appearance of the hill – mostly bare land on which there is no habitation, agriculture, grazing or reserves. The weathered Bastnaesite Zone that is the target for development occurs as a thick blanket of high grade rare earth mineralisation from surface on Ngualla Hill. Rare earths are contained within the mineral bastnaesite within a weathered host rock that contains very low levels of phosphate, carbonate, uranium and thorium compared to other rare earth deposits. This makes it easy-to-mine by low strip ratio open pit techniques and subsequently upgraded to a high grade processed concentrate through a multi stage processing plant on site. The Total All Resources Mineral Resource estimate for the Ngualla Project above a 1% REO cut-off is 214.4 million tonnes at 2.15% REO, for 4,620,000 tonnes of contained REO. Included in this Mineral Resource is the Weathered Bastnaesite Zone Mineral Resource, the measured and indicated portions of which form the basis of the Ore Reserve estimate. At a 1% REO lower grade cut-off the Mineral Resource estimate for the Weathered Bastnaesite Zone is 21.3 million tonnes at 4.75% REO, for 1,010,000 tonnes of contained REO. Details of the Mineral Resource estimate are contained within the ASX Announcement “Higher grade Resource for Ngualla nearly 1 million tonnes REO” as of 22 February 2016. The Ore Reserve estimate for the Ngualla Project is 18.5 million tonnes at 4.80% REO for 887,000 tonnes of contained REO. ASX Announcement “Ngualla Rare Earth Project – Updated Ore Reserve” as of 12 April 2017 provides further details and assumptions. The Ore Reserve represents just 22% of the Total All Resources Mineral Resource but is sufficient to support a mine life of 26 years. The Company plans to export approximately 32,700 tonnes per annum of rare earth concentrate grading 45% REO from Tanzania to the UK refinery. Ngualla is also host to widespread, high grade niobium-tantalum, phosphate, fluorspar and barite mineralisation. These additional commodities are at an early stage of evaluation and represent potential upside opportunities for additional products from the project. Tanzania is politically stable and has a well-established mining culture, being the fourth largest gold producer in Africa. Existing transport infrastructure together with a low tonnage, high value product will enable cost effective transport from Ngualla to the deep water port in Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s rebasing effort expands her gross domestic product by 32 percent

01:13
Tanzania's gross domestic product has expanded by 32 percent after the state rebased its calculation to incorporate new sectors in the economy, including big discoveries of natural gas. According to the national bureau of statistics, its gdp stood at 69.8 trillion tanzanian shillings after the rebasing, up from a previous estimate of 53 trillion shillings. Farming remains tanzania's economic mainstay, while tourism, mining, communications and financial services are the other key sectors. Tanzania has also made big natural gas discoveries, with revenues expected to give a boost to the economy by 2020. The base year for calculations was changed to 2007 from 2001 and the nbs said gdp growth for 2013 was subsequently revised up to 7.3 percent from 7 percent previously. The rebasing comes just months after kenya’s rebasing efforts, which saw the country’s ecopnomy revised up by 25 percent to 53.4 billion dollars in 2013. Researchers discover giant helium reserve in Africa - TomoNews

02:07
OXFORD, UK — Researchers have uncovered a helium gas field in the Tanzanian East African Rift Valley, which they say could address the increasingly critical shortage of the element. Widely known as the element that is lighter than air and commonly used to fill party balloons, helium has other important uses, including in welding, industrial leak detection, nuclear energy and, notably, MRI scanners. MRI scanners use powerful magnetic fields to map the human body. The superconducting magnets need to be kept at freezing temperatures, which are achieved with the use of liquid helium. The same concept is used in the Large Hadron Collider to accelerate particles to near the speed of light. The United States produces most of the world’s helium, as a byproduct of drilling for oil and gas. But U.S. government reserves of helium are running low, and little effort has been made in the country to develop new sources, resulting in a global shortage. That may be about to change. A research group from Oxford and Durham universities, working with Helium One, a helium exploration company headquartered in Norway, has found a massive source of helium underground in the Tanzanian East African Rift Valley, a highly volcanically active area in Africa. Volcanic activity in the rift valley provides an intense heat that has released helium from ancient deep rocks and trapped it in shallower gas fields. Independent experts have calculated a probable resource of 54 billion cubic feet in just one part of the rift valley. The amount is enough to fill over 1.2 million medical MRI scanners, and more than double the amount of helium held by the United States Federal Helium Reserve. If the helium reserves are too close in proximity to a volcano, they run the risk of being contaminated by carbon dioxide. Researchers are now looking into finding what they call a “goldilocks-zone,” somewhere between the ancient crust and the modern volcanoes, where the balance between helium release and volcanic dilution is “just right.” The study is a giant step towards creating a viable model for helium exploration. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets.
