Fort Belvedere Black Tie Bow Ties - https://gentl.mn/2ClMgZa First of all, when should you and when should you not drink champagne? "I only drink champagne when I'm happy and when I'm sad. Sometimes, I drink it whenI'm alone. When I have company, I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I'm not hungry and I drink it when I am. Otherwise, I never touch it unless I'm thirsty." In short, you can always drink it if you feel like it. So what temperature should you serve champagne at? Short answer, not too chilled but cool. More specifically, most champagnes are good at 46 degrees Fahrenheit or about 8 degrees Celsius. For vintage champagnes, it changes a bit to about 50 degrees Fahrenheit or about 10 degrees Celsius. If your champagne is too cold or too warm, you miss out on some flavors. To get that temperature, it should be about 3-4 hours in the fridge or about 15-20 minutes into an ice bucket. If you do not have that much time, you can add salt to the ice bucket and it will cool down into just about 5 minutes. So how do you open a bottle of champagne? Basically, there are two options. The traditional one is to do the sabrage, Personally, I've done it once, it is a huge mess and it is more of a show. A better way to open a champagne is to take the bottle and remove the foil as well as the wire cage and the muzzle on top. Most of the time, there is a little lip where you can open the foil, if you can't, simply take a wine opener and cut it open. Hold the bottle in your right hand if you are right-handed, the left one if you are left-handed. The cork always on the opposite hand. Now, twist the bottle from the bottom and slightly tilt on the cork until it pops. So how should you pour champagne? First of all, what glass should you use? Back in the day, people favored a flat kind of copita style glass because champagne often had a lot of carbonation and sometimes they would even use a swizzle stick to get rid of all the bubbles. That way, everything in the champagne is quite controlled so you don't have any excess bubbles and you can use different glasses. The most popular style is probably the champagne flute which is very elegant and stylish. That being said, in recent years, regular wine glasses have become a lot more popular especially for vintage champagnes because supposedly, they help you to discern flavors better. At the end of the day, simply go with the glass you have or the one you like most. When you pour champagne, most people hold it by the neck or in the middle. The most elegant way is to put your thumb to the back hole of the bottom of the bottle and then pour it. Ideally, you hold the glass at an angle and slowly pour it down then you wait a little bit until the foam has subsided and then you top it off. you always want the glass to be about half full if its a flute, a little less if it's a wine glass. Of course, if you get a magnum bottle which is one and a half liters, you get twice as many glasses. Alright, now it's time to drink the champagne. First, look at the champagne. If it is a very light golden color, it means it is a younger champagne. If it is darker, more golden, or yellow, it means it's an older, more ripen champagne. Two, smell the champagne. Hold your nose over it and see what you can smell. Generally, there are five aroma groups. Flowers, vegetables, fruits, dried fruits, indulgent delicacies. Three, now it's time to taste the champagne. Take a little sip, let it roll down your tongue, down the palate. Wine tasters typically swirl the champagne around their mouth just like you do with a mouthwash, that way, you get the full flavor experience. Last but not the least, pay attention to the finish when it rolls down your palate. The longer the flavor lingers in your mouth, the more high end, the more expensive the champagne will be. #howtodrinkchampagne #champagne #notsponsored --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? So you want a bottle of champagne, but you don’t want one of the usual suspects? This week is all about Rose Champagne that flies a little bit under the radar. PRESS Restaurant Sommelier Amanda McCrossin gives her weekly wine picks from WINE.COM that you can find, order and have shipped to your doorstep. this week's wines GASTON-CHIQUET ROSE: http://bit.ly/2qz29o5 CHAMPAGNE LALLIER ROSE: http://bit.ly/2pqU9Yu ------------------------------------------------ WEBSITE/NEWSLETTER: http://sommvivant.me PRESS RESTAURANT: http://pressnapavalley.com MUSIC: http:/soundstripe.com MAPS/RESEARCH: http://guildsomm.com ----------------------------------------------------------------- It’s a season for celebrating! With so many weddings and parties happening, I’m sure at some point you’ll be needing something bubbly in your life. But Champagne isn’t just for celebrating. It’s a wonderful food pairing wine that can take on many different personalities from bright and fruity to full bodied and gripping. Whatever your reason, Rose Champagne is among my favorite wines to drink and with Grower Champagne becoming increasing popular, I’ve included one of Terry Thiese’s selections as well. Gaston Chiquet has a great reputation in the wine community but won’t break the bank, making it perfect for dinner parties and wine tastings. Champagne Lallier is a little more full bodied and fruit forward, the perfect champagne to take you from start to finish in a meal. _________________________________________________ Each week I'm bringing you 2 great wines that not only have great value, but are actually delicious. Whether you are looking for that perfect Tuesday night wine or just want to know what the sommelier's are drinking on their night's off (God forbid we're fresh out of Burgundy) - the Weekly Wine Picks series has you covered. ------------------------------------------------------ After years of struggling trying to find great wines that were not only valuable but easily accessible, I've finally found a great solution!!! With friends and family scattered across the US, I constantly ran into the same situation. They'd ask me, "What wine can I buy for $20-$30 that is great." The problem would always be the same - no two stores ever carry the same wine, and if they did, it was generally something I didn't feel was either great or worth the money. So for the past year I've been doing some extensive research. I started first by identifying the types of wines I would recommend, and then reverse engineer from there. I started googling these wines to see who carried them and how often. Then I started actually ordering them - which is where it got tricky. Some online retailers would claim to have them and then upon ordering would be out of the vintage or the wine entirely. Others would ship them but the cost of shipping was more than the actual bottle. Then one day, I got a big break - a retailer that was once chock full of crap wine started carrying wines that I was actually interested in buying. It was a revelation. I would get email after email announcing the arrival of this wine, and that producer, and good lord back-vintages!! What's more, is they offered a ONE-TIME YEARLY SHIPPING MEMBERSHIP for UNLIMITED SHIPPING FOR $49!!!!!!! I thought I hit a gold-mine. Surely it would be some 3rd tier shipping service that took a month to deliver. Perplexed and cautious, I made my first order. Fast forward 2 days later and the wine, no joke, was on my doorstep (yes, you have to sign for the package). Properly packaged, the wine arrived in tact and seemed to have even been shipped in a temperature controlled environment. I ordered again, surely it wouldn't happen like this every time. But time and time again, the same thing would happen. I started experimenting with other states, same deal. I even had a corked bottle arrive once so I called them up and they shipped me a new one immediately, free of charge. The company I am referring to is WINE.COM - they have undoubtedly knocked out every other competitor on the market - and that includes, I'm sorry to say Gary Vaynerchuck, Wine Library (I had high hopes for them - but they failed me too many times). In this series, I will pick 2 of my favorite wines (I'll try to keep them under $30) from wine.com and do a quick review of them here with links to buy them below. I'll switch its up from week to week with reds, whites, and sparkling to keep it fresh! Make sure to subscribe to stay up to date and I'll look forward to your feedback in the comments below!

Like anything good in life, it takes time, patience, perseverance. It's basically as easy as it sounds. We'll leave out the part about lying awake at night, thinking you have a fever and you're going to die. Whiskey and soda is a wonderful combination. Here we've got Clontarf Whiskey. It's a nice Irish blend, takes the soda very nicely. Just a couple of ounces, if you don't have a speed pourer, you know, just wash your hand, in case. You don't want to over pour. Some soda water. If you have a mixing spoon handy, I like to get in there and just give it a little spin around. Make sure you get it thoroughly mixed. Garnish with lemon, because the softer citrus of lemon is much better than lime when you're mixing with whiskey. It looks beautiful, huh? Yes it is. And that's how mix whiskey and soda.

In which John Green teaches you about the Protestant Reformation. Prior to the Protestant Reformation, pretty much everyone in Europe was a Roman Catholic. Not to get all great man, but Martin Luther changed all that. Martin Luther didn't like the corruption he saw in the church, especially the sale of indulgences, so he left the church and started his own. And it caught on! And it really did kind of change the world. The changes increased literacy and education, and some even say the Protestant Reformation was the beginning of Capitalism in Europe. All you need to know about SCOTCH WHISKY: https://gentl.mn/all-about-scotch #scotchwhisky #whisky #notsponsored Learn how to truly enjoy and savor whisky: https://gentl.mn/2IN4rxl SHOP THE VIDEO: 1. Knit Tie in Solid Olive Green - https://gentl.mn/2rdkBVh 2. White Phlox Boutonniere - https://gentl.mn/2I3xmfl 3. Mid Brown Socks with Green and Cream Clocks - https://gentl.mn/2HFVghR 4. Eagle Claw Cufflinks with Malachite Balls - https://gentl.mn/2JDRa6s The first mention of scotch can be dated back to June first, 1495 to the Exchequer Rolls of Scotland. Thereafter, whisky begins to circulate throughout the country and by 1644 it was now. Of course, there are some smart distillers who sold it illegally and it became only more popular after that. By 1780, there were only eight legal distilleries in Scotland who had to compete against bootlegging operations. The popularity of whisky swelled again in 1831 when a column still took off. Now distilleries were able to mass produce this spirit at a much lower cost with a better quality, however, it was until 1880 that Scotch would become a global phenomenon. Up until then, wine and brandy had the top spots of drinks in the world. Interestingly, a very small microscopic insect killed a lot of the grapes and so there was a huge demand for a new beverage. The phylloxera bug brought the wine and brandy production almost to an immediate halt and scotch would pick up where they left off. Today, scotch is enjoyed by many gentlemen around the world. Unfortunately, the terms are often mixed up and so we'll try to provide some clarity. Probably the most popular scotch term is single malt. That means, it is a whisky from a single Scottish distillery that is based on barley and water. It contains no other cereals, must be distilled and bottled in Scotland. Next up is a category of single grain Scotch whisky which usually you can't find easily on liquor store shelves in the US. Just like the single malt, the single grain whisky starts out with barley and water but then other things are added to the mash which would start the fermentation and eventually end up in alcohol. Just like a single malt, it has to be bottled in Scotland to be named scotch. So single grain Scotch whisky is what you find for the most part in blended whiskeys out there. So what does the term blended Scotch mean? Basically, you need at least one single malt scotch that is then paired with at least one single grain Scotch. You may have come across the term blended malt scotch which is rather uncommon and previously was also referred to as “vatted malt” or a “pure malt”. If you get a blended malt Scotch you take at least two single malt scotches from different distilleries and blend them together. So blended grain Scotch is very similar it just means that you have at least two or more single grain Scotch instead of them blended together. So what needs to be in a Scotch in order to be able to call it Scotch? Again, it must be produced, bottled, and distilled in Scotland. Must be based on barley and water and must be aged in casks. Yes whole grains and other cereal can be added to the malted barley mash in order to produce different flavor varieties. It also has to be processed entirely at a distillery, it has to be fermented with enzymes and yeast, and the alcoholic strength can't be more than 94.8% or 190 proof. That is matured in a warehouse in Scotland and it can't be larger than 700 litres that's about 185 US gallons. In order to call it scotch, it has to stay there for at least three full years. If you call it scotch you must retain color aroma and flavor of the raw ingredients. It must not contain any other substances other than water to wear it down to bring to a certain proof level and e-150a which is caramel coloring. Last but not the least, you can't water it down too much and must retain at least 40 percent or 80 proof for it to be called scotch. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? Join us as visit Rome, Italy in this travel guide covering the best things to do in the city including top attractions and foods worth trying. We cover activities you won't find in a typical Rome tourism brochure, Rome itinerary or Rome, Italy city tour also known as Roma Italia. 20 Things to do in Rome, Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript: (ROMA) Rome, the Eternal City. After several trips to Italy, we finally managed to visit our biggest oversight: the capital! From wandering through Roman ruins to devouring pizza, and climbing up lookout points to feasting on gelato, in this travel guide, we’re going to share with you 20 things to do in Rome, Italy: We reached Roscioli which was the best pizza in Rome. Pizzas are served by the weight and we sampled 7 different pizza slices. We stopped at Largo di Torre Argentina an archaeological site home to four different temples containing parts of the portico of Pompey. It was a short walk to the Pantheon, a former Roman temple turned church, which dates back to the year 125 AD. The Pantheon boasted the world’s largest cupola up until the 15th century, and it is still the largest unreinforced concrete dome in existence to this day making it one of the greatest architectural achievements by the ancient Romans. If you want to find the best gelato, look for colours that are muted with small batches. One of the many things to do in Rome, was to visit the Trevi Fountain. This is the largest Baroque fountain in the city. Rome’s most famed attraction is the Colosseum and its surrounding ruins. We started our visit on Palatine Hill, the most central of Rome's seven hills. What visitors see today are the ruins of the Palace of Domitian, a 1st-century complex, which served as the main imperial palace for 300 years. We continued to the Roman Forum. This square was the centre of ancient Roman life, with government buildings, temples, and markets. We reached the Colosseum, which was the largest amphitheatre ever built and could hold an estimated 50,000 and 80,000 spectators. Walking through the Vatican Museum was more overwhelming than enjoyable. We visited Vatican City to climb St. Peter’s Basilica for views of Rome. Castel Sant’Angelo was commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family. Villa Borghese is the 3rd largest public park in Rome with gardens, villas, and ponds with views of the city overlooking Piazza del PO-polo, the people’s square. That concludes our tour of Rome showcasing the many things to do in Rome on your own trip. This is part of our Travel in Italy video series showcasing Italian food, Italian culture and Italian cuisine. Music by DJ Quads: https://soundcloud.com/aka-dj-quads

Dominion uses drones, hidden and handheld cameras to expose the dark underbelly of modern animal agriculture, questioning the morality and validity of humankind’s dominion over the animal kingdom. While mainly focusing on animals used for food, it also explores other ways animals are exploited and abused by humans, including clothing, entertainment and research. In which John Green investigates war, and what exactly it may or may not be good for. Was war a result of human beings organizing into larger and more complex agricultural social orders, or did war maybe create agriculture and "civilization?" It's hard to know for sure, but it's sure fun to think about. My advice is this: Settle! That's right. Don't worry about passion or intense connection. Don't nix a guy based on his annoying habit of yelling "Bravo!" in movie theaters. Overlook his halitosis or abysmal sense of aesthetics. Because if you want to have the infrastructure in place to have a family, settling is the way to go. Based on my observations, in fact, settling will probably make you happier in the long run, since many of those who marry with great expectations become more disillusioned with each passing year. (It's hard to maintain that level of zing when the conversation morphs into discussions about who's changing the diapers or balancing the checkbook.) Obviously, I wasn't always an advocate of settling. In fact, it took not settling to make me realize that settling is the better option, and even though settling is a rampant phenomenon, talking about it in a positive light makes people profoundly uncomfortable. Whenever I make the case for settling, people look at me with creased brows of disapproval or frowns of disappointment, the way a child might look at an older sibling who just informed her that Jerry's Kids aren't going to walk, even if you send them money. It's not only politically incorrect to get behind settling, it's downright un-American. Our culture tells us to keep our eyes on the prize (while our mothers, who know better, tell us not to be so picky), and the theme of holding out for true love (whatever that is—look at the divorce rate) permeates our collective mentality. Even situation comedies, starting in the 1970s with The Mary Tyler Moore Show and going all the way to Friends, feature endearing single women in the dating trenches, and there's supposed to be something romantic and even heroic about their search for true love. Of course, the crucial difference is that, whereas the earlier series begins after Mary has been jilted by her fiancé, the more modern-day Friends opens as Rachel Green leaves her nice-guy orthodontist fiancé at the altar simply because she isn't feeling it. But either way, in episode after episode, as both women continue to be unlucky in love, settling starts to look pretty darn appealing. Mary is supposed to be contentedly independent and fulfilled by her newsroom family, but in fact her life seems lonely. Are we to assume that at the end of the series, Mary, by then in her late 30s, found her soul mate after the lights in the newsroom went out and her work family was disbanded? If her experience was anything like mine or that of my single friends, it's unlikely. And while Rachel and her supposed soul mate, Ross, finally get together (for the umpteenth time) in the finale of Friends, do we feel confident that she'll be happier with Ross than she would have been had she settled down with Barry, the orthodontist, 10 years earlier? She and Ross have passion but have never had long-term stability, and the fireworks she experiences with him but not with Barry might actually turn out to be a liability, given how many times their relationship has already gone up in flames. It's equally questionable whether Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw, who cheated on her kindhearted and generous boyfriend, Aidan, only to end up with the more exciting but self-absorbed Mr. Big, will be better off in the framework of marriage and family. (Some time after the breakup, when Carrie ran into Aidan on the street, he was carrying his infant in a Baby Björn. Can anyone imagine Mr. Big walking around with a Björn?)

Michael B. Jordan stands tall as he attends the Moet Nectar Imperial Rose x Marcelo Burlon Launch Event on Wednesday (June 3) in New York City. The 28-year-old actor was joined by Solange Knowles and Orange is the New Black‘s Dascha Polanco. Michael‘s Fantastic Four director Josh Trank recently opened up about the backlash he received about the film’s casting choices. “I knew it was going to get ugly,” Josh said (via L.A. Times). “I get it. I have a lot of friends who are older than me who are comic fans and it’s really hard for them to be on board with a change like that. Fantastic Four has been theirs for longer than I’ve been alive. It hasn’t been mine.”

We went out to dinner to Buffalo Wild Wings or I had a really good chicken caesar salad and Matt had two different types of boneless buffalo wings. He got garlic Parmesan and buffalo wings. When we got home Matt popped open another bottle of champagne. He's been on a champagne kick lately. I'm not a huge fan of champagne so I drink a Mimosa. The kids love when Matt drinks alcohol because he comes really goofy.
