Midlothian Voluntary Action was one of the first groups in the UK to receive a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) Sharing Heritage grant. This exciting project "A History of Community Activism and Voluntary Action involved researching the rich history of local people working together to support each other and their communities. This has involved interviewing local activists. This is an extract from an interview given as part of this project. The full interview will be given to the Dalkeith Museum. Margot Russell is a Midlothian Councillor (Dalkeith Ward No. 3) but has also been a community activist for a long time. Margot was involved in community activism during the Miners Strike of 1984/85 as a miner’s wife and this clip is about that time.
