GOLD RUSH - GOLD TOWNS (Old Wild West History Documentary) INCREDIBLE HISTORY DOCUMENTARY - In the early 19th century, California was a dusty outpost few Americans had visited. Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine Tour - 2018 and it might be the last time
Check out: www.TrailTaker.com to find your next Adventure! First off Stephen the guide we had was awesome. As you can see in the video he was just GREAT. It was mentioned that the open pit mine in Victor, CO might be purchasing the Mollie Kathleen Mine and not to give tours but to strip mine the land it is on. This is very sad news as that mine tour is one of the best around and we have been going over the years and have watched them expand with all the other buildings. I'm sorry for the long video but I wanted to show the WHOLE mine and surrounding area in how it is before it just ups and closes. Does this mean it will be closed before 2019 season, I don't know and details were not given but it very might be done never to see another tourist again and be destroyed. :-( :-( :-( it will be sad to see it go and be an ugly Pit mine operation. A well maintained road passes within a mile of the claims, but the mines lie hidden up an old overgrown road. There are two claims, a lode and placer, that cover two separate mining operations. Estimated years of operation were from the 18960s-1940s. The area is a mining wonderland.

Finding Lost Gold! Colorado Springs, Colorado gold prospecting
As always, Mountainman is out and about! We went up the mountain once again, and this time we were looking for lost gold! There have been so many claims in America since the early years of the gold rushes that its hard to believe there is still gold up on the mountain. We use the LR2000 reports program to locate old, voided, or abandoned claims and mines. The claims are never easy to find in the bush bet perseverance wins out in the end. This old abandoned claim was found by the barely visible depression left in the ground. We crushed ore and tested the gravels in the washes in the area. It was a small load claim from the 40's an hour and a half hike strait up the side of the mountain. We are thinking about staking a claim in the area and are keeping the location under wraps until we locate our favorite spot! As always, leave us a comment if you wanna know more or subscribe to get our latest videos!

ZARTUSACAN 6 | Colorado - Million Dollar Highway, Pikes Peak and a Gold Mine
ZARTUSACAN is Zoe’s and Allister’s Road Trip in the USA and Canada. In May 2016 we flew our own motorbikes – a Triumph Tiger Explorer and a BMW F650GS – from the UK to Canada, and then spent just over ten weeks touring in the USA and Canada. We rode in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Alberta and British Columbia. EPISODE 6… The trip continues with - riding in Colorado, Durango to Silverton and meeting some fellow British riders, the Million Dollar Highway, chancing across waterfalls that couldn't be seen from the road, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park including the East Portal Access Road, meeting lots more Americans, winding mountain passes to Cripple Creek in the Rockies, a ride up Pikes Peak, and the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine. Read the blogs - http://splodzblogz.co.uk/2016/06/29/zartusacan-road-trip-posts/ ------------------------------------------------------------- We made the videos, along with taking lots of photos, so that we would have something to remember the trip by, and so that our family and friends could see some of what we experienced. The video wasn’t the main purpose of the trip, though; the main purpose was for us to see and experience everything for ourselves, with taking video and photos coming second to that, so this only really shows you glimpses of our trip. Nevertheless, we hope you enjoy it. Mingo Mine - Colorado - Gold Rush Expeditions - 2015
Website: https://www.goldrushexpeditions.com/ Mining Claims for Sale: https://www.goldrushexpeditions.com/store/mining-claims-for-sale/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoldRushExpedinc National Bureau of Mines: http://www.nationalbureauofmines.org/ The Mingo is a lost treasure; likely worked prior to 1890 and then forgotten. The mine has been cut following the highest grade gold and quartz vein. There are other veins showing good ores that have scarcely been touched. There is also a high grade pile outside the mine. A placer claim covers the water that runs down the center of the claim, with fleck gold visible in the water.
Cripple Creek Colorado, United States
Cripple Creek Colorado. United States 2005. The City of Cripple Creek is the Statutory City that is the county seat of Teller County, Colorado, United States.[6] The city population was 1189 at the 2010 United States Census. Cripple Creek is a former gold mining camp located 44 miles (71 km) southwest of Colorado Springs near the base of Pikes Peak. The Cripple Creek Historic District, which received National Historic Landmark status in 1961, includes part or all of city and includes surrounding area. The city is now a part of the Colorado Springs, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. With many empty storefronts and picturesque homes, Cripple Creek once drew interest as a ghost town. At one point the population dropped to a few hundred, although Cripple Creek was never entirely deserted. In the 1970s and 1980s travelers on photo safari might find themselves in a beautiful decaying historic town. A few restaurants and bars catered to tourists who could pass weathered empty homes with lace curtains hanging in broken windows. Colorado voters allowed Cripple Creek to establish legalized gambling in 1991. Cripple Creek is currently more of a gambling and tourist town than a ghost town. Casinos now occupy many historic buildings. Casino gambling has been successful in bringing revenue and vitality back into the area. It also provides funding for the State Historical Fund, administered by the Colorado Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation. In 2012, Colorado casinos produced over $104 million in tax revenue for these programs. https://youtu.be/sqlDVf_0Ew4 Cripple creek colorado

Located just outside of Gunnison Colorado, The Willow Creek Mine is a mystery that is waiting for more exploration. The surveyors reported massive quartz outcrops and a curious, old adit that has long been sealed. The USGS reports beryl as the primary commodity. The mine also likely produced garnet and possibly topaz.
Prospecting and Digging Crystals at Devils Head, Colorado
More details at http://davealex.com/devils-head-prospecting-trip-october-2013/. Was able to make a trip up to Devil's Head this last weekend; I'm prospecting in a new area away from Virgin's Bath and wanted to head up one last time before they close it for the winter. There was snow on the ground in the trees but most had melted in the open areas, so I prospected there. I came across some clear quartz shards and pegmatite pieces so I decided to dig in this area. About 30 minutes later I started hitting crystals. I had my phone today all charged up; so I decided to take some video to show the many people that ask what finding crystals is actually like. Note that most of the fun and hard work is omitted (about 5 hours on this day), you'll just have to go up for yourself to enjoy that. In the mean time, enjoy this video! The snow started shortly after I took this video and I had about an hour hike so I booked it out of there; there was some promise of this seam continuing, so maybe I'll go back next year!

It's located in high country; it's remote, but easy to access.
Montezuma Mine, Colorado. Gold Rush Expeditions, 2014
The Montezuma mine was originally located in 1878, near the apex of the lode that would be come to be known as the Smuggler Lode. By 1884 the mine had been producing thousands of tons of silver and lead ore along with a lot of gold. Old historical documents show that the gold was processed at the lower or 6th level as they shipped all of the silver and lead down to be smelted in Leadville. Somewhere around 1896-7, a larger mining company began digging in near the river following placer gold and silver bits. They called this mine the Carribeau, named for a lake or sea in Europe. They worked in and hit the Smuggler vein at a lower instance. Unlike the upper mine, these claimants immediately patented the property once they were producing ores. Around 1900, the Carribeau, working up, intersected with the Montezuma as they worked down. The details are unknown, but the Carribeau sold out their interest to the Montezuma. Law had already established ownership of lodes at the apex of the vein. With that in place they would not have legally held the mine for long. On or around 1901, the unpatented Montezuma was sold along with the Carribeau (now known as the 13th level) to some investors from Boston for $350,000.00, in 2014 figures that is equal to $9,649,437.26. This was not wasted money, the mine was noted for expansive reserves of gold, silver and lead. The new company installed a double battery of stamp mills and began pushing all of the ores out to the 13th level and processing at that point. The mine kept working under a few various entities until 1936, still shipping ore, when the economic crisis brought on by the rise of Nazi Germany and the anti-mining rhetoric from FDR caused what was thought to be a temporary closure. The Montezuma Mine has a documented 12.8 miles of drifts, raises, winzes and cross-cuts. This was a gold mine, the silver was ancillary. Between 1881 and 1913 the mine recovered an estimated 50,000 ounces of gold, it's one of the reasons it never slowed down even with the silver crash in 1893.

6 Historic Mad Gold Rushes
Stumbling upon gold can chance people’s life, like the California historic gold rush or even the Bitcoin boom. Here are some of the most historic gold rushes ever. Subscribe to World5List http://goo.gl/cpJSA6 Find us on... -- http://www.boredbadger.com -- http://www.facebook.com/world5list Historic Gold Rushes Some people dream of winning it big in the lottery but what if you accidentally stumbled upon a large amount of wealth? It just so happens that in our past and even in our present with cryptocurrency like bitcoin people still go bonkers over the idea of striking it rich easily so join us as we check out some historic gold rushes that ended up changing people's lives for better or worse: The California Gold Rush In 1848, it would be a carpenter from New Jersey that accidentally created one of the greatest gold rushes in American history. His name was James Wilson Marshall and he found flakes of gold in the American River at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Coloma, California. Witswatersrand Gold Rush One of the most popular locations to source gold still today was discovered long before 1886 by Africans and Natives who were already mining for the precious mineral, but it was Witswaterrand that would play a key part in the Mineral Revolution and it also led to the establishment of Johannesburg, South Africa. The Black Hills Gold Rush The land was technically owned by the Sioux at the time in 1874 but the first arrivals of men seeking gold were led by George Armstrong Custer. He brought along with him 1000 men to investigate the rumors that there was gold in present-day Custer, South Dakota. Georgia Gold Rush of 1829 The George Gold Rush of 1829 at the time was known as Cherokee Nation, but it began to be flooded by thousands of prospectors hoping to find gold in the area. There were around four thousand miners working along the Yahoola Creek alone and the numbers only grew over time. Pike's Peak or Bust! The Pike's Peak or Bust! Slogan could be seen on carriages coming into town and it actually became the slogan in reference to the early prospectors who came to the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains in search of gold. Bitcoin Boom We have come quite a long way from the time when prospectors and miners had to get lucky and search in rocky regions in order to strike it rich, but now with the Bitcoin Boom things aren't so far from our past.

The mine is located high in the hills of Colorado and is spread out over Doctor Park area with a placer and a lode claim. There was notable gold flake, pyrite and mica noted in the running water and several sections of the river had dumps right out of the mines. There are three buildings on the claims: a fully stocked cabin with propane and water, an interesting old locked cabin with a section of the river running underneath it, and finally a very clean and well stocked outhouse.

A Gold Hunter's Experience by Chalkley J. Hambleton (FULL audiobook)
A Gold Hunter's Experience by Chalkley J. Hambleton "Early in the summer of 1860, I had an attack of gold fever. In Chicago, the conditions for such a malady were all favorable. Since the panic of 1857 there had been three years of general depression, money was scarce, there was little activity in business, the outlook was discouraging, and I, like hundreds of others, felt blue." Thus Chalkley J. Hambleton begins his pithy and engrossing tale of participation in the Pike's Peak gold rush. Four men in partnership hauled 24 tons of mining equipment by ox cart across the Great Plains from St. Joseph, Missouri, to Denver, Colorado. Hambleton vividly recounts their encounters with buffalo herds, Indians, and"the returning army of disappointed gold seekers." Setting up camp near Mountain City, Colorado, Hambleton watched one man wash "several nice nuggets of shining gold" from the dirt and gravel, only to learn afterwards that "these same nuggets had been washed out several times before, whenever a 'tenderfoot' would come along, who it was thought might want to buy a rich claim." Two years later, "tired and disgusted with the whole business," Hambleton returned to Chicago, where he arrived "a wiser if not richer man." In later years, Hambleton was a prominent Chicago lawyer, real estate developer, and a member of the Chicago Board of Education. He wrote this candid account for family and friends, publishing it privately in 1898. It is based in good part on letters he had sent from the gold fields to his sister. Summing up his experience with wry humor, he writes: "After selling out my interest in the joint enterprise, I still had left some fifty claims on various lodes . . . Some time after returning to Chicago, I was making a real estate trade . . . and I threw in these fifty gold mines. . . Had I only kept them, and gotten up some artistic deeds of conveyance, in gilded letters, what magnificent wedding presents they would have made. . . In the long list of high-sounding, useless presents, the present of a gold mine would have led all the rest." (Summary by Sue Anderson)

National Bureau of Mines: http://www.nationalbureauofmines.org/ The Greek Garden Mining claim is located just off the road in Empire, Colorado. This was a rich, good sized gold mine based on the tailings. The presence of easily visible, free-milling gold in the tailings indicates that there were very high grade deposits being worked and some loss of small gold was not an concern for the miners.

Colorado Experience: Colorado Coined
After the gold rush hit Colorado in 1859, prospectors craved a way to carry - and spend! - their rich finds. Architecturally inspired by the Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence, Italy, the Denver Mint solved this problem and began minting coins in 1906. The building became the subject of criminal intrigue when, on December 18, 1922, five men hijacked a Federal Reserve Bank delivery truck outside the Mint, igniting one of the most puzzling robbery cases in Colorado history. Colorado Springs Pikes Peak Climb river in america
The first European-American to climb the peak came 14 years after Pike, in the summer of 1820. Edwin James, a young student who had just graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont, signed on as the relief botanist for Stephen Harriman Long's expedition after the first botanist had died. The expedition explored the South Platte River up as far as present-day Denver, then turned south and passed close to what James called "Pike's highest peak." James and two other men left the expedition, camped on the plains, and climbed the peak in two days, encountering little difficulty. Along the way, James was the first to describe the blue columbine, Colorado's state flower. Gold was discovered in the area of present-day Denver in 1858, and newspapers referred to the gold-mining area as "Pike's Peak." Pike's Peak or Bust became the slogan of the Colorado Gold Rush (see also Fifty-Niner). This was more due to Pikes Peak's visibility to gold seekers traveling west across the plains than any actual significant gold find anywhere near Pikes Peak. Major gold deposits were not discovered in the Pikes Peak area until the Cripple Creek Mining District was discovered southwest of Pikes Peak and led, in 1893, to one of the last major gold rushes in the lower 48 states.
